Kenneth Herr

Kenneth Herr of Atlantic, passed away Wednesday morning, April 20, 2011, at the Cass County Hospice Center at the age of 81.
Kenneth was born Dec. 9, 1929 in Fontanelle, to Herman Henry and Bessie Margaret (Stickney) Herr. He attended school in Bear Grove #1 for eight years. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church south of Wiota and was confirmed in 1945. On Sept. 19, 1953, Kenneth was united in marriage to Delores Marlene Woodall at the First Lutheran Church south of Wiota. He was a member of the Army National Guard for nine years. Kenneth farmed for 41 years and was employed at the Anita Sale Barn. He also drove a school bus for the Atlantic School District for 37 years. At the age of 78, Kenneth retired. Kenneth enjoyed cattle and studying history. His favorite thing was buying wheelchairs and walkers to take to the Hope Haven at Rock Valley where they were refurbished and sent overseas. He enjoyed family vacations and attending cowboy church.
He is survived by his wife Marlene Herr of Atlantic; a daughter Trudy Tish and husband Bill; grandson Trenton Tish and granddaughter Jodi Tish all of Grinnell.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Bessie Herr; in-laws Mike Woodall and Gertrude and Dale Joyce; two brothers-in-law, Robert Krueger and Cleo Eilts; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
There will be open visitation daily at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic from 8 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. with a family visitation Friday evening, April 22, from 5 - 7 p.m. Services for Kenneth will be held at the First Lutheran Church south of Wiota, on Saturday, April 23, at 10:30 a.m. with committal at the Evergreen Cemetery at Anita. Memorial contributions to the family will be designated at a later time.
