Alberta Borow Obituary

Alberta "Bert" Borow, age 93, passed away Monday, January 3, 2023 at Auburn Ravine Terrace, Auburn, California.
Bert was born July 7, 1929, in San Mateo California to the late Albert and Daisy Morgan. Her youth was filled with the love of her parents and sister Joyce. After high school, Bert attended junior college and went on to TWA flight school. She became a stewardess with United Airlines where she met and fell in love with her husband Bernie.
Bert married Bernard Borow on July 4, 1952. It was a fitting day because these two were firecrackers. They raised four children who still joke about who was her favorite. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Bernie, her four children; Anne and her husband Randy, Jim and his wife Maxine, Bridget and her husband Frank, Scott and his wife Jerri, 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Bert and her husband Bernie were very active in the community and 4-H when the children were young with many projects such as wood working and animal husbandry. She continued to raise goats, sheep, geese, chickens and a llama after the family settled in Auburn. Bert sheered and used the wool from the sheep.
Where this amazing woman really shined was when she created things. She was a long-time member of the Sacramento Weavers and Spinners Guild and spent years teaching her skills to family members, people attending art conventions and at her studio The Elegant Goat Ranch in Auburn. She taught weaving, basket making, felting, spinning, and much, much more. There was hardly a task that she would not try. Through the years her talents included so many beautiful things such as cake decorating, macramé, knitting, sewing, wood painting and making gourds, seaweed and driftwood art. Her favorite projects were weaving baskets and making dream catchers. Bert's love of crafting still shines through her beautiful creations. She was such an inspiration to so many.
Bert also found great joy in gardening and spent many hours hauling hoses and sprinklers. Her happy place was working or just sitting in her garden. She loved to share her vegetables and fruits with everyone, including delicious things she made such as applesauce, blackberry jam and canned peaches. Bert especially loved her mandarins and was a wonderful cook, frequently experimenting with new recipes, which we all loved to sample.
During Bert's last few years she lived at Auburn Ravine Terrace where she and Bernie enjoyed the love and care of the most amazing staff. She started coloring her hair for the seasons. She had red and green hair for Christmas. She said Bernie liked it because he could spot her among all the white haired ladies there. And she loved her pretty shoes just like her mom.
Bert loved people and she was many things to so many people. We, the members of her family, were lucky to call her wife, mom, Grandma and GG.
A Celebration of Life will be held as an open house from 1pm to 4pm on May 7, 2023 at Gold Hill Gardens, 2325 Gold Hill Rd., Newcastle, CA 95658.

I really appreciate knowing Bert! I first knew her as I worked with sheep and spinning and weaving! She was always very helpful and encouraging! Later we enjoyed basketry and other crafts together! Even buying walnuts from her daughter was very special! I´m very thankful for all the time I knew her! What a blessing she was to so many!

I met Bert through my husband when he dropped his cell phone from an airplane onto their property in Auburn. Later, she needed someone to assist her after a hospital stay. We developed a great friendship and I´ve learned a lot from her from canning to gardening. When we moved to Idaho, we planted an Alberta Spruce in her honor. She was a great friend and we miss her greatly.
