Justin Barber Obituary

Justin Frederic
Barber, Jr.
12/27/1925 - 6/29/2011

Fred Barber passed away peacefully, at Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital, on June 29, 2011. Born in Argentina in 1925, Fred was raised in Berkeley where he attended school. After serving in the Navy and Maritime Service during World War II, he graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a degree in Civil Engineering. Thereafter, Fred entered the emerging field of Planning and worked as a private consultant throughout Northern California before becoming Planning Director for Placer County. After leaving the County, he formed Western Planning and Engineering and Western Planning and Research. He never seemed to really "retire" until just a few years ago.
Fred was an active member of the Auburn Rotary Club for many years where he thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie and service. Fred's preference for vacation spots included those whereever the water was warm. He also had a special fondness for sailing. He was appreciated for his analytical mind, creativity and sense of humor. Fred enjoyed socializing at the Tahoe Club where, until recent years, he could be seen wearing his unique reading monocle.
Fred was preceded in passing by his son Frederic Warren Barber of Clearlake. Fred is survived by his wife of 45 years, Shirley, brother, Bruce Barber of San Felipe, Mexico, sister, Reverend Mother Agnes Shaw of Volturno, Italy, half sisters; Vicky Price of Chula Vista and Emily Jo Owens of Hemet, daughters; Patricia Gibbs of Loomis, Katie (Calfee) Anderson of Edmonds, Washington, sons; Justin Frederic Barber, III of Kelseyville, Steve Calfee of Placerville, five grandchildren and three great-grandchilren all of whom shared love, admiration and respect for him.
At his request there will be no servcies. Families will gather for a private remembrance.
Memorial donations may be made to Auburn Rotary Club or Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital Foundation.
