LOCKE - Philip W. Aber, 85, of Locke, N.Y., died Friday, Feb. 3, 2017 in St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, surrounded by his loving family.
Phil was born Feb. 9, 1931 in Bath, N.Y., a son of Ralph and Edith Ovenshire Aber. He was a graduate of Moravia High School class of 1950 and of Morrisville Agriculture and Technical Institute with an associate's degree in applied science, majoring in agriculture.
He was a loving husband and father. He operated a dairy farm in Moravia for several years and later raised sheep and beef. He had been a cattle breeder and also worked at New Process Gear in Syracuse. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he enjoyed sharing stories and watching wrestling. Phil was a member of the Dairymen's League, St. Patrick's Church of Moravia, and was a former 4-H leader.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bertha "Bert" Zuhoski Aber, of Locke; daughter, Michele (Matthew) Goodnough, of Baldwinsville; two grandchildren, Eric (Jessica) Goodnough, of Oswego, and Meagan (Nathan) Scheffler, of Rehrersburg, Pa.; six great-grandchildren, Damian, Gavin, Kamden, Elijah, Isaiah, and Sophia; two sisters, Isabella "Izzie" Carter, of Cortland, and Ruth Wilson, of Dade City, Fla.; several nieces and nephews, and his favorite companion, his dog, Prince.
He was predeceased by his son, Brian Scott Aber in 1978; four sisters, Pauline Downing, Dorathea "Dot" Montgomery, Martha Murphy, and Shirley White, and four brothers, Lynn "Stub," Glen "Pat," Alfred "Jake," and Hilen "Hi" Aber.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017 in St. Patrick's Church, Grove Street, Moravia. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested for the Four Town First Aid Squad or SPCA.
