Sally Shanfelter Obituary

HERSHEY, Pa. < Sally K. (Keefe) Shanfelter joined her husband, Austin W. Shanfelter, in heaven on Monday, June 12, 2006. For 77 years, she loved and constantly supported all of her family and friends touching everyone she knew with her caring, humor, style and grace. Sally was born in Potsdam and lived and went to school in Norwood. After marrying Austin in February 1952, they began to raise the family in various places including Norwood, Syracuse, Watertown, Hershey, Pa. and Auburn. In anticipation of retirement, they moved to Naples, Fla. and, eventually, Fort Myers Beach, Fla. She left her special touch by keeping strong ties with "old" friends and making wonderful new friends along her way. She is survived by her children, Karen Rae, Sandra Forsythe, Austin Shanfelter, Karl Shanfelter, Lynda McCarty and Susan Lappin, who thank her for her unconditional love, advice and friendship. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kyle, Audrey, Hillary, Colby, Meghan, Alice, Ashley, Rachael and Daniel, whom she adored as wonderful, unique individuals. She spent time reading, talking, playing Yahtzee, listening, hugging and holding and in the process taught them laughter, kindness and the importance of family. Her extended family of Brian, Pam and Joyce were touched by her warm heart and always welcoming embrace. As she leaves to join Daddy (Grandpa), she will never know how many lives < family and friends < have truly been enriched by sharing her amazing life. The family plans a memorial celebration of her life in Florida.
