Barbara Sayers Obituary

EVANS, Ga. - Barbara (Barbie) Howard Sayers, 48, entered into rest at home with her husband Doug at her side after a valiant and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was Doug's beloved wife for 23 years and loving mother to her two sons, Ben Sayers and Ryan Sayers. Barbie was born in Madison, Wisconsin and has lived in the Augusta area for the past 43 years. She attended Augusta Preparatory Day School, Evans Middle School, Evans High School, The University of Georgia, and The Nursing School at the Medical College of Georgia. She earned a Bachelor of Science-Registered Nursing Degree, a Master of Science in Nursing Degree and a Post-master's Certificate as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. She loved to garden, her yard was a showplace of beautiful, well-tended plants and flowers. She was also an enthusiastic and active Cub Scout Volunteer and Pack Leader. Dear Sayers family,
My heart is aching for the loss of Barbie. We met at MCG numerous years ago and she left a strong, positive mark on me. I knew she was tough when we first met, then cancer invaded. We discussed things many times and I saw her often during her treatment, getting updates and giving/receiving hugs. I last saw her about 2 months ago with her Dad. What a special bond they had. The world was a better place because of Barbie, and we are all better people for having known her. RIP, my friend. I will miss you.

I am so sad and my prayers are with her entire family especially Doug and the boys. In 1993 I met Barbie where I worked with her for many years. We shared lots of laughs and many personal and professional life events . I have wonderful memories of Barbie and recently found a beautiful picture of her which was taken at her baby shower on 9 North. The last time I saw her she was very encouraging to me when we ran into each other at MCG. I had made a career move and she gave me such encouragement to continue in my new path and never give up. My heart aches for the family and I pray for comfort for all. She was a wonderful coworker and friend to me.

We are so very sorry to hear about Barbie's death. We have known her since she was a teenager. We all did theatre together and Barbie babysat for our kids - she was always a favorite. She was a beautiful person, both inside and out. She accomplished so much and was well loved by all who knew her. We send our thoughts and prayers to all of you.
