Theodore Lawrence "Lance" Axon

Theodore Axon Obituary

HEPHZIBAH, Ga. - Mr. Theodore Lawrence 'Lance' Axon, 64, of McCall St., Hephzibah, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 21, 2008, at his residence. Funeral services will be held from the Sherwood Baptist Church, Saturday February 23, 2008, at 10:00 A.M., with the Reverend Jim Johnson, the Reverend Marion Jay and the Reverend William Swink officiating. Interment with full military honors by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Mr. Axon, a native Augustan, retired as a Chief Warrant Officer-4 from the USN after 29 years of dedicated service to his country. He was also retired from the V.A. Hospital and the Aiken County School System at Midland Valley High School. He was a lifelong member of Sherwood Baptist Church and a dedicated disciple of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Lawrence Axon was a hard working man. He loved to work. He may have even intentionally broken things just to have work to do. He had a work ethic unlike most other men in this world. He worked hard every day of his life so that his family could have everything they needed and most of the things they wanted. Hopefully he is now able to finally take a vacation and rest for a few thousand years. But, more than likely, he's up in Heaven right now trying to fix that 'squeak' made by the pearly gates as they opened up for him. We love you LawrenceÉyour family. Mr. Axon was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Gladys McCool, his beautiful son, Aaron Shane Axon and his step-sister Melinda Sasxon Zielinski. Mr. Axon is survived by his wife, Carol Ruppe Axon, formerly of Rutherfordton, NC; his father, Ted Sasxon of Tampa, FL; his sister Broncille Caizzi and her daughter Kelly Stephens of Middleboro, MA; his two sons, Charles 'Chuck' Lawrence Axon and Dale Lance Axon, both of Augusta; his step-son, Christopher Ayers of Rutherfordton, NC; and his niece Emily Zielinski; Lawrence also leaves behind five grandchildren that will miss their PaPa dearly, Bailey Kathleen Axon, Kacey Maureen Axon, Ruth Anne Axon, Charles Dustin Axon and Katie Ann Axon. Honorary pallbearers will be, Alton Bell, Gene Sims, Dick Sapp, Billy Smith, Kenny Hughes and Carroll Sasser. The family will receive friends this Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of the service at Sherwood Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Mr. Axon's name to their favorite charity or to the American Cancer Society, 2623 Washington Road, Suite F-4, Augusta, GA 30904. I had the opportunity to play golf with Lawrence a few times in the Church golf tournments and at the Aiken Golf Club.
And I just want to tell you what a wonderful person he was .You did not have to be around him much to know how much he loved the Lord and his family.

God bless you !

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
