Willard Compton Obituary

AIKEN, S.C. - Mr. Willard Ernest Compton, Sr., 77, of 4357 Whiskey Rd., beloved husband of Delda Richards Compton, died Saturday, May 22, 2004 at Eden Gardens. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home with The Rev's Dr. Eddie Leopard and Dr. W. James Rivers officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery, New Ellenton. A native of Troutman, N.C., Mr. Compton was a son of the late T. R. and Mozelle Lawing Compton. He was a navy veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from DuPont at the Savannah River Plant. He was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church and the Chapel Sunday School Class. He was a former member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, having served on a mission trip to Ecuador while a member of that church. He was also a Mason and a former member of the American Legion. Survivors, in addition to his wife include a son, W. E rnie Compton, Jr., Elgin, S.C.; a grandson, Christopher David Compton and a great-grandson, Rider Guthrie Compton. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Compton Antley. Memorials may be made to Millbrook Baptist Church's Building Fund. The family will receive friends Tuesday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Rd., Aiken, S.C.
