Leona Valley - Vance Greene Kirkpatrick, 90, of Leona Valley, California, soared peacefully into the skies on May 13, 2025. A cherished husband, father, grand and great-grandfather, and friend, Vance leaves behind a lasting legacy of passion, service, and philanthropy. Burial services will be held at the Bakersfield National Cemetery (Arvin) on Friday, June 6th, at 2 pm. His Celebration of Life will be held at the Leona Valley Community Building on Sunday, June 8th, at 12 pm. In lieu of flowers, guests of the Celebration of Life are invited to bring a dish to share.

Born on October 13, 1934, in Hollywood, California, to Nelle Greene and Corde Campbell Kirkpatrick, Vance displayed an early fascination with aviation, a passion that would shape his extraordinary life.

Vance's remarkable career began with his service as a PBY-Catalina Naval Aviator during the Korean War, an experience that laid the foundation for his illustrious tenure as a Captain with the Los Angeles County Sheriff. A lifelong learner at heart, Vance held a Bachelor's Degree from Cal State LA and a Master's Degree from USC.

Vance's love for horses, mules, and aviation mirrored his dynamic spirit. His contributions and frequent letters to the editor of the Antelope Valley Press attested to his vibrant community involvement and his fervent desire to foster change.

Vance is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Juanita Kirkpatrick, and his cherished daughters, Cheryl Kirkpatrick and Charlene Moore (spouse William L. Moore), his grandchildren, NYPD Det. Jason Brunson (USAF Veteran), USAF Lt Col. and Dr. Michael Brunson, Christine Winter (US Army Veteran), Candice Vander Hyde, Sarah Moore, and several great-grandchildren.

He is remembered not only for his achievements and public service but also for his boundless generosity and wisdom. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
