I first met "mamma" in Phoenix AZ. I had gone to visit my sister. We were joining Gina for lunch at Joe's Crab Shack. Gina brought Mamma. A beautiful small woman that had a life glow so few have. I sat across from her. My life was in turmoil...my 30 year marriage was ending, my mother was VERY sick and my job was weighing heavily on my mind. I was heart sore and soul weary. Mamma talked to me about little nothings and for a small period of time my mind was at rest. We never discussed my life mess. When we left the restaurant, she stopped me, put her hands on both sides of my face and said to me...you are a beautiful person. Your heart will heal and your life will become your own again. Wow talk about a light to my hurting life. The next time I saw Mamma was in Jacksonville. My sister and I stayed with Renee and her family for several days. Mamma had had surgery...so she was in pain understandably. Fortunately I was able to give some assistance in a minor capacity. I was honored her family trusted me enough to help. She spoke again, while I was changing the dressings, of those little nothings. As the time came for us to leave she once again put her hands on my face and said to me "pretty girl your heart still hurts but you are strong and will continue well." That was quite a few years ago...but I have had to be strong and my heart may never heal completely but her words still rest in my mind. Mostly though, I remember her touch on my face and her eyes looking into mine - she really believed that I was beautiful and looking in her eyes I believed it too. You have to believe when you have been touched by a woman with the kind of spirit and heart that Mamma had.

Momma belonged to all of us. She was a fun loving woman who raised her girls to enjoy life to the fullest. Her legacy was in her smiles, her family and friends. She will always be remembered with love.

Such a wonderful woman and gentle soul. Alicia was my Godmother and I always looked forward to visiting with her from the time I was a child to when I became a parent. Enjoyed taking my children to meet her before she moved to NC. Many great memories of her.
