Noad, Charles
Charles Henry Noad, 96, passed away on October 22, 2010. He was born on October 4, 1913 in London, England, the only child of Charles Henry Noad and the former Eliza Frances Williamson. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary and daughter Gillian Richardson. He is survived by two daughters, Sally (Donald) Hendry and Margaret (Edward) Houston; three granddaughters, Christine Houston, Elizabeth Houston, and Marianne (Louis)Tortora; and two greatgrandchildren, Quentin and Caitlin Tortora. He was educated in England, spoke French and German and had an extensive vocabulary. He was a champion swimmer in school and a weekend soccer player in the position of center. He enjoyed political discussions, singing and watching debates on PBS. He worked in the banking industry in New York City and at Time/Life and the Internal Revenue Department in London. After retirement in 1980, he returned to the United States to live in Arizona to be near his family. He worked as a volunteer at The Salvation Army and Goodwill, organizing the book sections for several years. He became an American citizen in 2007 at the age of 92. He will be greatly missed for his kindness, wit and sense of fair play. Arrangements have been entrusted to Meldrum Mortuary at 52 N. McDonald in Mesa, where visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 26th at 6-8pm, with a memorial service at 11am on Wednesday, October 27th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to The Salvation Army.
