Corey Smith Obituary

Smith, Corey Dean
Corey Dean Smith of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on December 1, 2017 due to complications from a liver transplant. He began his mission on the other side of the veil at 59 years old with a heart willing to serve. Corey was born in Hollywood, California as the the youngest son to Don H. Smith and the late Eva Redford. He served a full-time mission in Louisiana, and then attended Utah Technical College, where he met his "honey" Sara Jean Wiltbank. They were married in the Jordan River Temple and began a beautiful life together serving, traveling, building a business, and raising a happy eternal family. He moved to Arizona in 1987 where he lived everyday with a purpose. Corey was an early riser who loved developing commercial properties, working countless hours in the Mesa, Arizona temple, cheering on sports teams, having weekly pizza parties, waffle Sundays, and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother Eva Redford, brothers Terry and Brad, sister Jill, and step-mom Ruth Jensen. He is survived by his wife Sara and five children: Jon (Shana), Chris, Brad (Jacquelyn), Candace, Spencer (McKenna); 5 grandchildren: Liam, Amelia, Sophia, Kason, and Evelyn; father Don, brother Mike, and sisters Karen and Susie. Corey will be remembered as a die-hard BYU fan, a bow-tie fanatic, a loyal husband and father, a scuba diver, a faithful temple goer, a hardworking contract developer, and a loving "Pop". He loved the Lord, he loved his family, and he will always be remembered. VIEWING CELEBRATION: Friday, December 8th, 6:00-8:00pm at Legacy Funeral Home of Mesa. FUNERAL: Saturday, December 9th at 10:00am in the LDS chapel at Hermosa Vista and 32nd St in Mesa (viewing before). In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the LDS missionary fund. Please accept my sympathy in the death of your husband and father. He was my mentor when I worked with him for years in the Arizona Temple. He taught me what I needed to know about the ordinances of the Temple. I truly loved the man and am anxious to be with him in the eternities to come. I will sorely miss him. God bless you in your loss. Sincerely, Paul and Ruth Hatch
