Cynthia VanderHaar Obituary

VanderHaar, Cynthia Kay
Cynthia Kay VanderHaar, 66, passed away on May 5, 2016 at her home in Mesa, Arizona. She was born on September 30, 1949 in Miami, Arizona to William and Helen (Davis) Adams. Cindy graduated from Miami High School in 1967. After high school, she attended Oxford University in England and Arizona State University where she received a degree in Biology in 1973. She was a schoolteacher, a writer, a homemaker, a wife, sister, mother, and grandmother, and was very active in her church and mission work. Cindy married Daryl VanderHaar in 1974 in Miami, Arizona. They were both founding members of Word of Grace Church (now Hillsong Phoenix). Cindy enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and camping in the White Mountains. She adored her grandchildren, always taking the time for fun field trips and projects, constantly a teacher, through and through. She loved people, and it showed through her ministry and all of the lives that she touched. Cindy shared every passion and part of her life with Daryl, her loving partner of 43 years. She was a shining example of the love of Christ. Everything she did had the underlying motive of demonstrating His love. Cindy is survived by her husband, Daryl, of Mesa, Arizona; her sons, Jason (Doria) VanderHaar of Loveland, CO and David (Yvette) VanderHaar of Mesa, AZ; her daughters, Charlotte (Brian) Nickelson of Glendale, AZ and Sarah (Brandon) Kent of Mesa, AZ; her sister, Nancy (Dan) Moore of Mesa, AZ; her grandchildren, Brianna, Brian David, Hunter, Jake, Hayden and Ashley. A celebration service will be held at Hillsong Church, Mesa Campus - 655 E. University Drive, Mesa, AZ 85203 on Friday, May 13th at 1:00pm. In leiu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Hillsong Phoenix (www.hillsong.com/phoenix), Crisis Pregnancy Centers of Greater Phoenix (www.cpcphoenix.org), or Feed the Children (www.feedthechildren.org).

I was talking with Chris Pantipento today and heard that Cindy passed away over a year ago. I was so saddened to hear this news but also know that she was a strong woman of faith and awesome prayer warrior. She will have many jewels in her crown. Daryl, my heart goes out to you. Praying that you are finding peace and solace in the loving arms of Jesus.

Mrs. VanderHaar was an amazing woman. I have known her and her family since I was 8 years old, so about 28 years. She was like a second mom to me. I will always remember her as a strong loving woman who would make time for you no matter how busy she was. I will always remember her and her loving smile.
