David G Walker, 89, resident of Tolleson, AZ passed away July 1, 2013. He was born in Fabens, TX on May 6, 1924. His family moved around the southwest during his early years, living in Texas, Arizona and California. He graduated from Banning High School in Banning, CA in 1942. David served in the Army Air Force during WWII, flying P38's and P47's on long range fighter support missions with the 73rd Fight Squadron, 318th Fighter Group. Participating in combat operations over Saipan, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He married Marie (Givens) Walker on September 1, 1949. They were married for almost 56 years until she preceded him in death in 2005. David and his wife moved to Arizona for the last time in 1952 where they owned & operated Givens Mattress Co. for 35 years. He was involved in the various Racing Pigeon clubs in the valley for 40 years where he made many lasting friendships. He lived in the Tolleson area for the past 41 years. He will be loved & missed by all who knew him. He is survived by daughters Glenna W. Evans, Rebecca Meintel (Jeffery) & Loretta Walker (Scott), sons David Walker Jr. (Donna) & William Walker, brother William Walker, grandchildren Amber Mosure, Tiffany Riley (Chad), Christopher Van Horne, Andrea Meintel Guy (Adam) & Sean Meintel. He is preceded in death by his sister Florence Fricke. Visitation will be held on Wed, July 10th from 5:30-7:30 PM. Services will be held on Thu, July 11th at 10 AM at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary, 719 N. 27th Ave. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his name to Hospice of the Valley or Lifestream Senior Living in Youngtown.
