My condolences for your loss. I work for Lt Col Knauer at Spangdahlem AB, Germany during the late 1980’s. I was full of energy and a sincere concern for the well being of all his troops. God bless.

Mein lieber Dieter,
We met in 1963 and married in 1965. I was 19 and you were 21. From your humble beginnings in war ravaged Wuerzburg, Germany, you made a true success of your life and served your new country for 25 years, reaching the rank of Lt. Colonel. It was an amazing achievement and a great opportunity and education for your family. It is a cruel fate that you have been ripped from our lives at such a young age. We miss you very much and pray you are safe from all suffering and harm. Gottes Segen und Auf Wiedersehen to a really fine soul.
Much Love from Paula Maria Knauer, your first wife of 35 years.

I am sorry to hear these sad news about Dieter. He was my commander in Geilenkirchen, Germany, at the NATO Air Base between 1983 and 1987. He really was a good guy and was always there for me, if I needed him. We laughed a lot together and he had a good sense of humor. I will never forget him.

I remember him quite well, because he had really blond hair, and kind of a stocky build. He was full of life, and he was so brave to have served in the Air force. I'm glad he had children and even a grandchild. He knew a lot about love.

Sorry to hear of this news about Dieter - he was a good fellow and always had a smile on his face, as I recall. Sounds like he had a challenging youth, coming to this country at a young age, by himself, back when we were kids. I'm glad he found happiness and could spend his retirement years in Arizona in peace.

Dieter would say "Your Looking Good Man" at Queen Anne and we would smile for the rest of the day. If you hitched a ride on the Sky Ride at Seattle Center, Dieter would send you for a second round trip for free.
The world enjoyed his fun!
