Elayne was a very special person- A truly unique blend. Sometimes she could be an odd duck, other times a prancing peacock, others a grouchy crow, but she was always a loving and protective mamma quail leading her young (all young) to safety and comfort. She wasn't my mother and she was not related to me by blood, but she was/ is my family. Elayne was there for the people in her life She showed up and she genuinely cared about our well being and the well being of the world. When my grandmother died and I could not afford the plane ticket home, Elayne immediately drove over and handed me a check, because (in her words) It was the right thing to do and she cared . When I was injured very badly, and had to go to years of cognitive therapy to rehabilitate from a severe accident, was suffering from seizures and other neurological ailments, Elayne called several times a week Not just to check on me but to encourage me to do everything I could to push through and try to get better. I did She helped me. That's the type of person she was. It's true she often had a 'no- nonsense' disposition, and it's also true those of us that knew her didn't always like the advice she gave us but she gave it because she loved us.
I send my heartfelt condolences to the family and I hope they take comfort in knowing Elayne's spirit and generosity touched many people. They may never know how many but my guess is that number is quite profound; Or let's just put it simply: She DID leave the world a better place than when she entered it . She DID and we all know that to be true.

May the God of all comfort continue to give the family the strength you need to cope during this hard time. May you continue to cherish the memories that you shared with her and be surrounded with peace and love. May you find solace in the words found at Isaiah 61:1:1,2.
