Hansford Cooper Obituary

Cooper, Hansford (Hoot) Hestand
1-21-1936 to 1-20-2014. 77, passed on 1-20-2014, one day shy of turning 78. Hoot was born in Mt Vernon Texas and moved with his family to Az in 1946. He graduated from Coolidge High School, married and had three children. He moved his family to Phoenix in 1966 and became a Master Welder. Eventually he and his wife owned and operated Sun State Steel from 1970 to 1993. From there they retired and traveled the United States, camping, fishing, dancing and playing cards with family and friends along the way. He loved people of all ages and kept us laughing most of the time. He never knew a stranger and opened his door to everyone. Every AM he went to the local cafe and swapped stories, jokes and laughs with his buddies. He loved life. He built a workshop in his back yard which became his second home. There he constructed projects and gifts for family and friends. He was a Master at most trades. He as so special and loved by many and will be very much missed. He was preceded in death by his Father Edgar, Mother Golden, Brother G.W. (Sambo) and Sister Bonnie. Survivors include his wife Mary of 59 1/2 years, Sister Connie, Daughters Leslie, Susan, and Kathy, Son-in-laws Tom, Frank and Vince, Grandchildren Stephanie, Quinton, Angela, Johnnie and Amanda and Great Grandchildren Matthew, Joshua, and Marley. A Memorial and Reception will be held on January 31, 2014, 1PM at The Cooper Home. www.valleyofthesunfuneralhome.com

Dad, I think of you daily and believe you are alive and well in the kingdom of God. I will be so happy to see you again. In the meantime we will do our best to be happy and well and be good to others as you would want. I know you would want us to help others to see the humor in life. You certainly kept me laughing and I treasure the memories and miss you so much. I have a great big hug for you when we meet again. I love you Pop.

I treasure our memories. it is difficult to be without you here now but I so look forward to being with you in the future. I will do my best to do as you would wish until we meet again. What a great example you were to me.

You were a true fiend to John and I and you will truly be missed by all.

In a thousand ways I remember Hoot's humor. The incident I still chuckle about is when we were traveling in our motor homes up to the mountains for a week end of camping in the Arizona woods. Hoot and Mary's camper was just in front of ours. Cars passed, and as they did many of them would honk and wave at us. Ralph wondered why they didn't honk at any others in the caravan. at our next stop Ralph checked all around our dinky motor home to see if there was a problem. He found a pair of old raggedy shoes tied together with a huge pink and blue sign attached. "NEWLY WEDS. GIVE EM A HONK."
Our youngest child at that time was 16.
Ralph chuckled. We knew who did that.
Ralph untied the old shoes and sign and without Hoot seeing him, transferred the whole business to Mary and Hoot's magnificent bumper.
For the next 100 miles or so It was Hoot and Mary who received all the waves and honks. (Their kids were in their thirties)

Love you both Hoot and Mary. Better friends we never had. Wish I could have been there for you, Mary, as You guys were always there for us.
