James Amdahl Obituary

James "Jim" Lauren Amdahl

Chandler - Jim Amdahl, 80, of Chandler, AZ, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2020, of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. We would like to thank Copper Creek Inn and Hospice of the Valley for their care.

Jim was born in Thief River Falls, MN, to Lauren and Jane Amdahl (both deceased) on July 26, 1940. He moved to Arizona in 1964 after graduating from Stanford and serving two years in the Navy.

His working career began at the Arizona Automobile Club, married his wife, Janet in 1972. Son, Joel arrived in 1974.

In 1976, he began his successful career in Real Estate with Tom Fannin, Realty Executives, ReMax, Keller Williams Legacy One, and Keller Williams Sonoran Living, retiring in June 2019. Jim served on the Board of Directors for SEVRAR (Southeast Valley Realtor Association, now WESERV) and served as President of SEVRAR two terms - 2000 and 2008. He also served on the National Association Board of Realtors. Jim volunteered with Sun Sounds - reading the newspaper for the blind for 15 years.

Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janet, son Joel (Rene and two grandchildren), brother Steve, niece Ameena, and cousins in Minnesota, Washington, and Montana.

Due to COVID, a future Memorial Service will be scheduled.

Jim was a class act. Always a true gentleman in every occasion. His level-headed demeanor was apparent in every situation, good or bad. A true professional and honest man. He will be sorely missed and our profession was tremendously enhanced because of his service. God speed Jim, until we meet again!

Very sad to learn that Jim has passed.

Jim was a fellow sports car rallyist in the late 1960´s early 1970´s in Phoenix. I did not know him well - I was always impressed that he worked with the Arizona Auto Club - but always enjoyed his company and guidance. I think he tried to show me several times how to use a Curta calculator, but I could never get the hang of it.

I was fortunate to have known Jim. He will always be remembered with great memories.

Jim is my first cousin - our dads were brothers. When I was a child, Jim was this "much older cousin who lived in California." I knew little about him, but in our later years, we got to know each other very well. My husband and I spent some of our early retirement winters in Arizona, and we had many fun times with Jim and Jan. We are going to miss that. Not everyone knows how talented Jim was in speaking, and that he recorded several stories, I believe for Public Radio, although I am unsure about this. He was able to capture dialects so well. We were gifted with recordings of some of his readings, and played them to my father, his uncle, when he was in a care center. Jim always had a twinkle in his eye (like his mother, my Aunt Jane), and a story to tell, or a joke to share. We miss you, Jim.

Jim was a great man with a wealth of knowledge concerning Real Estate! Any young RE Agent was lucky to have Jim as your Broker! Very patient & thorough!
I truly enjoyed our conversations about baseball as well!
God Bless the Amdahl Family!

I had the pleasure of working with Jim first on committees at the Board of Realtors and later at Keller Williams Realty Sonoran Living.
Jim and I enjoyed many hours of ridiculous banter. And I learned many of what I called his Amdahl (isms). My favorite came from his passion for the Realtor's Code of Ethics. He loved saying, "May the Code be With You".
Thanks for the many memories, Jim

I had the opportunity and privilege to have Jim Amdahl as my broker when he & I were at the Keller Williams Legacy One Realty office in Chandler, AZ.
Jim was acting Broker when I joined KW Legacy One 13 years ago. As my Broker, Jim looked over my contracts and protected me from error! Jim was always patient, knowlegeable, kind, efficient and I could depend on Jim to answer any of my real estate questions at any time I needed his help.
He was always reasurring, made me feel confident as a newer agent, and always gave encouragement, he was also quite a jokester! I will miss Jim, and I pray for strength for his family to work through the great loss of Jim.

Please accept my condolences to Jim's family. Jim was extremely helpful to me when I first arrived at Keller Williams Realty Sonoran Living fresh out of Real Estate School. He always made me feel comfortable asking him questions about Purchase Contracts and anything pertaining to Real Estate. He was the best and I was very fortunate to have known him.
