Records, John Merritt, M.D.
John Merritt Records, M.D. 81, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away August 14, 2017. Dr. Records was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on January 20,1936, to Dr. Arthur Wilson Records and Ruth Merritt Records of Franklin, Indiana. He is survived by his wife of 46 years„ Pamela Winslow Records of Phoenix, Arizona; a daughter, Jill Records Kirk and husband, I. Ray Kirk, Ill, M.D. of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Mikki Records Owens and husband Mark E. Owens, of Phoenix, Arizona; a granddaughter Kendall Merritt Records of Sugarland Texas; a granddaughter Jenna Rebekah Owens of Phoenix, Arizona and a sister Judy Records Jones of Las Vegas, Nevada. Dr. Records was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Arthur and Ruth Records of Franklin, Indiana; in-laws, Joseph and Helen Winslow of Apache Junction, Arizona and Franklin, Indiana; and two sons, John Movius Records of Houston, Texas and Mark Stevens Records of Phoenix, Arizona and a sister Alyse Records Rives of Franklin, Indiana. His first 78 years of life he was a resident of Franklin, Indiana, graduating from Franklin High School in 1954 and Indiana University, Bachelor of Science in 1958 and Doctor of Medicine 1961, at which time he entered Family Practice with his Father in Franklin. He was on staff of several central Indiana hospitals and clinics, including his own 58 bed long term care nursing facility. Delivering over 1800 newborns kept his practice population young and growing while continuing to serve his Father's patients after his demise in 1974. In attempting to retire to Arizona in 2013, the pull of patient care and contact prompted him to utilize his Indiana and Arizona medical license and DEA federal license to counsel and rehabilitate drug addicted patients. Dr. John was a Charter Fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Board of Family Practice, American Medical Association, Indiana State Medical Association 3 term Trustee, Johnson County Medical Society past President 2 terms, and American Medical Political Action Committee. Dr. Records also served as President of Johnson County Indiana University Alumni Association, 4 terms, B.P.O.E. Elks 55-year life member, Masonic Lodge, Murat Shrine and 32'd degree Scottish Rite. He was a former member of Hillview Country Club, Franklin, and a current member of Moon Valley Country Club, Phoenix. Just a few of Dr. John's hobbies were enjoying the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, Indiana University Basketball and a staunch Bobby Knight supporter, golf which became the entire families' passion, and planting and watching his cacti and Sonoran desert landscape mature. Dr. John was most proud to be a lifelong member of The Disciples of Christ Christian Church. He served as Elder and Choir member. He would be honored that, in lieu of flowers, any memorial contribution be sent to Coolwater Christian Church, 28181 North 56th Street, Scottsdale, Arizona 85266. The memorial service is to be held at Coolwater Christian Church September 2, 2017, at 3 pm, followed by a reception in the church. B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #335 will conduct a memorial service at the lodge beginning at 6pm that same date.
