Julia Grenier Obituary

Julia M. Overstreet Grenier, of New River, AZ, passed away on June 21, 2007 at the age of 43. She was born on December 24, 1963, in Phoenix and would have been named "Squiggles" if her big sisters had been given the authority to name her. Julia battled breast cancer for almost seven years and was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She never gave up and was always more concerned about others than herself. Julia was a favorite patient of many. She was always positive, never saying she didn't like something, only saying "it's not my favorite". Julia loved being with people, whether at home, at the dunes, out dancing, or anywhere there was fun going on. She gave so much to her friends and family and she leaves a gap that can never be filled. She grew up in Scottsdale, graduating from Coronado High School and Arizona State University. She worked for many years in commercial property management. Julia leaves behind her loving husband, Lou Grenier; and their children Cody Dimond, and AJ, Amanda, and Amber Grenier. Julia is also survived by her parents, John and Margaret Overstreet; her sisters Emily (Steve) Bean and Beth (Jay) Balducci. Also mourning Julia's death are her in-laws Lou and Audrey Grenier, her sisters-in-law Audrey and Patti and brother-in-law Rich, along with many uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and cousins. Her family wishes to thank her devoted friends who spent so much time by her side the past few months. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2007 at 10:00 am at Phoenix First Church of the Nazarene, 19201 N. 7th Ave. Phoenix, AZ. Donations may be made in Julia's name to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phx, AZ 85014.

Although I lost touch with Julia after high school the impression she left from the memories at Hohokam and Coronado will remain sweet forever. A kind heart such as hers lives on endlessly in the hearts of all who were blessed with the chance to know her. She truly was the kindest, sweetest most positive person I remember from school. May God lift up her family in their time of sorrow and remind us all that she will always be with us, in our hearts and memories.

Our Deepest Thoughts & Prayers for Julia & her Family. I had the great pleasure of knowing Julia for many years who I met through my husband and friends. Julia was such a great inspiration to us in our time of need when it was discovered that I also had breast cancer. We didn't talk much about it but when we did she help me to make important dicissions and to keep fighting no matter what. I will miss her dearly and I am greatful that the time we had with her were the best. My deepest sympathy to Lou and the children. Please let us know if you need anything Lou.
Sincerely,
Carla&Gregg Weatherbee

My deepest heart felt sympathy to Julia's husband Lou, Kids, and family at this time.

I met Julia at Corodado High School in choir and seen her in many dramas. I do remember her smile and strong leading persona that she had. She was always friendly and had a gentleness that made you want to get to know her.

I only knew her through choir and on campas at Coronado, but she is someone who imprinted her kindness and friendlyness on people as she went through Coronado.

My thoughts and prayers are with Lou and her family at this time.

In christ,

Connie DeShong

I just wanted to let Julia's family know how truly inspirational she has been--not only to me, but to everyone she touched! I knew Julia from Hohokam and Coronado...and the last time we met we talked about her cancer. She was so focused on her life the the lives of her friends and family that she truly made the cancer seem like just another detail--something that needed to be dealt with, but that would have no bearing on her determination and outlook. Julia knew what is important, what is meaningful...and she shared that with all of us. Such an inspiration to us all!

We didn't know Julia for very long, but in that time we were fortunate to see the sweet spirit and kind heart she posessed. In all of her trials at the end, we never once heard her complain and she always had a smile on her face. We offer our heartfelt condolances to her family. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your lives and for being able to be there for Julia's last moments. It was truly an honor. All of our love and prayers are with you.

Julia was my dearest friend through high school, college, and the start of our adult lives. While our contact became infrequent, the love and friendship I felt for her never faded. Julia, you were such a special friend. Someone who you could catch up with on the phone or over lunch when life got in the way and we hadn't seen eachother in a while. I'll always hold the times we spent laughing, joking and just having fun very close to my heart. You were such a beautiful person inside and out and I am going to miss you very much. My thoughts and prayers go out to your wonderful family. God bless you.

I have never "hung out" with Julia during my school years, but we knew who each other were and at our first class reunion she treated me as if I was one of her "pals" in school. She has always been breath of fresh air and I believe that she will continue to be that way in her after life.

Julia,

Even though it has been so long since we have seen each other and been in touch, it is amazing how the thought of you brings memories flooding back. Some of my earliest elementary school memories at Hohokam and on Sheridan Street include you. As I now think of you it is amazing how clearly I can picture running to each other's houses and playing down the street. I will miss you. I trust that you are with our Heavenly Father and that He is comforting you and members of your family. We will pray that God will comfort their hearts and give them strength.

See you again someday, sister,
Mike

I don't even know where to begin. I will never forget the day I met you in the bathroom at the Spur and all the fun times we had. I couldn't stop thinking of you yesterday remembering the times we had, from searching for a kitten for Cody and ending up with a bunny to just being silly at our favorite hang outs. I always told you when I grew up I wanted to be just like you, and you always told me I was older than you!!! I could go on and on from "shopping" in your closet, to the napkin wrapped around your beer, to your lipstick never getting smudged!! You my dear were my IDOL!! You were the most positive person I ever knew, I can still hear your sweet voice and remember your kind spirit. I truly believe God brought you in my life when I needed you most, you were the one always there for me with advice that sometime I didn't like to hear, but I knew it was the right advice!(Although I was too stubborn to listen!!) I will see you again one day friend, I know you're in heaven feeling no pain and suffering no more. And I still say, "when I grow up I want to be just like you!!" I love you Julia!

Julia was one of my first high school friends when I moved to Arizona. She will always be remembered for her sweet spirit and kindness. In times like this, we look for sources of strength to sustain us. And in this moment of loss, I pray that you're finding these sources everywhere around you -- your family, your friends, and in our God. May God bless you.
