Memories and Condolences

Not sure what to say?

Kent and his family were folks my family truly loved. It was one of those public secrets that my mother and I are distantly related to the wares--at least in the Kiowa way. We always enjoyed the company of the Ware family. In my adult years, I was always amazed to see how much the Indian community depended on him for leadership, friendship and, when necessary, fried bread and beans.

We love you, Kent. There is coming a day when we will all stand up again before the Lord. We look forward to seeing you. If they organize baseball teams There, maybe you and I can umpire together again.

See you then.

Kent Ware was my Grandfather. He was the best person I knew. I am his oldest grandchild and I am forever grateful that I had his influence in my life. He had such a profound effect on people (I always thought it was just me)because he made you feel like you were the most important person in the world when he spoke to you. He treated everyone equally to his smile. He loved to have a good laugh and was one of the happiest people I knew.

He was ill before his passing but he never complained. He always wanted to put others at ease and would smile and laugh even during his own discomfort. I am thankful for all of the kind words from others, he truly touched many lives. He was a great man, father and grandfather and we miss him terribly. He lives on in our hearts and we will always remember him and his kind heart, his love, and laughter.

I wanted to express my sincere condolences to the family, in the passing of such a wonderful person. Although I only experienced a limited knowledge of all the contributions Mr. Ware made to society, he will be remembered as a tremendous "gift" shared by all those he touched. I was fortunate to have known him.

Such a legacy that follows Mr. Kent Ware. He was a gentleman, a leader and friend with an open heart and mind to all. He will be missed but long remembered.

Pop, as he was known to me and the memory of such a fine man who, after my own Dad passed into the Spirit world. took me as a son. Mom, Jane, and Andy are remarkable people who shared a life with such a remarkable man. I will miss him and the sharing we both had , about our ventures together to make the many recognitions deserving of our Native American Veterans and community. Peace, Pop, the Spirit pony awaits to carry you home.

I have sat here and thought how to describe my feelings for Kent Ware or some special memories. I am truthfully finding it difficult to find one in particular of all the wonderful memories that I have of this man to share. He was a gem! When I needed to be chewed out, he did it. When I needed to laugh, he made me. I have never met someone that has had such a profound affect on my life as Kent Ware. One thing I can share is that my heart is filled with so much pride and honor that this man brought me into AIVMO and made me feel very much like family. I lost my father back in 1979 and Kent was almost the same age my father would have been. I looked up to him as a father/elder figure and treasured each thing he related to me.

While I know his suffering has ended on this earth and he has now gone on to a fuller life with the Creator, my heart is heavy and saddened. But I know that he is with each of us that knew him, in the strong spirit that he possessed in life. Even through the missing of this wonderful man that so many people loved, I can remember one thing about Kent. He never told me Goodbye, ever. He would say that when I moved from Arizona it was just a "mild separation".

So, I will never say goodbye to Kent either. He will live on with me and all he shared with me I will pass on to others, until that day that the "mild separtion" ends. God be with you, my friend.

What a marvelous life Mr. Ware lived! His involvement in many organizations and committees is amazing. He leaves with us his friendliness, his wonderful smile, and a greeting that would lighten up anyone's day. Kent was an example of how life can be when it's lived to it fullest! My prayers and thoughts to his wife and family as he begins his journey to the next place.

What a man Kent was....I loved his smile (flirty); his love for life, his strength to drive all over Phoenix in the rain, sleet and heat; his intelligence to carry on any duties assigned (aye-aye, sir); his commitment to the Native American community (ALL the committees and organizations he was a member of); and his dream to build a memorial honoring all veterans! I will miss this man of honor, I will miss his phone calls and visits to my office, and I will miss his power and love - he had enough for ALL of us! Jane and family, thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing Kent with me. He holds a special place in my heart. Askwali.

Dear Janie and family. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. We will all miss Kent, he has been an icon in the Phx community as I grew up and now that I am an adult I appreciate all of his contributions even more. My deepest sympathy is with you. The heroes are all being called home to prepare a way for us. Peace to all of you. Rev. Mary Louise Amiotte Frenchman, Cherokee NC
