Leona L. Dudek

Leona L. Dudek, 94, 1712 W. Glendale Ave., The Beatitudes Campus, passed away peacefully on April 25th, 2004. The daughter of Leon E. Ludwig and Ellen Crawley Ludwig, she was born January 8, 1910 in Wenatchee, Washington and raised in LaGrange, Illinois. Her sister Eleanor predeceased her. She is survived by her daughter Ellen and son-in-law Robert Strickland, 3 grandsons, Scott & wife Rana, Craig & wife Joanna and Steven & fiance' Nancy Miller and 3 great-grandsons, Timothy, Mark & Jonathan. She attended National College of Education in Evanston, Illinois, Seabury-Western Theological Seminary and received a bachelor's degree from Arizona State College and a Master's Degree from Arizona State University. She was a Director of Religious Education in Wisconsin, Chicago, Illinois and Great Falls, Montana. She married Edgar Gleim Maclay on December 25, 1937. They moved to Phoenix in 1944, where Mr. Maclay died in 1948. Mrs. Dudek taught 1st grade in Avondale and at Longview school before becoming the primary grade supervisor for the Osborn School District. She was a consultant for Scott Foresman Publishing Company and in 1960 became an Associate Professor of Education at ASU. She was married to Edward R. Dudek for 25 years until his death in 1985. She lived in both Phoenix and Scottsdale and was very active at St. Stephens Episcopal Church. She spent summers in Friendship, Maine for 30 years. She provided leadership and vision for many programs including Center DOAR and Age Link at the Beatitudes. Her insight and humor brought joy to her many friends and her family. She was an amazing lady who enjoyed life to the fullest. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Beatitudes Campus, 1610 W. Glendale Ave., Phoenix, or St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 2310 N. 56th St., Phoenix. Memorial services will be held at the Beatitudes Life Center at 2:00 pm on Friday May 14, 2004 and at St. Stephens Episcopal Church at 11:00 am on Saturday May 15, 2004.
