I first met Manfred at the International School, Geneva, Switzerland in 1952. Over the next four years, we became very good friends, both studying and playing together. I have wonderful memories of the time we spent together and often reminsce about it, even today. In 1956, we went our separate ways and I lost contact with him for nearly 40 years. In 1995 I met Manfred again along with some of our old school friends at the school re-union in Chicago. Both Manfred and Dot welcomed me to their home where I stayed. They were wonderful hosts. We met again ,with wives at the re-union in Toronto in 2002. Our last meeting was in Las Vegas where we spent a memorial evening with Manfred and Dot in February 2004.
Manfred's passing away is a great loss of a great friend. I can well imagine how great a loss it is for Dot and their family. Our heart felt condolences to them.

Dot, we are so sorry to hear of Manfred's passing.
Our memories are of our younger days. We arrived at LSU in 1964 and you were our neighbors. We are reminded of Manfred's character and his infectious outlook on life. We have such fond memories of dinners, conversations , Matt & Christina as young children and of us walking to LSU football games. You have remained in our hearts after all these years.

Manfred and I corresponded on some international education issues related to my doctoral work, and then I was fortunate to meet him last Fall when he came to the Lansing area. His depth of character, strong values, enjoyment of a good discussion, and zest for life came through from the start. Although Manfred was a part of my life only briefly, he influenced my thinking and I will remember a very long time. My deepest sympathies to Dot and the family.

In 2006, we met Manfred and Dot as he lead the planning sessions for the RV Club Alaskan 2007 Caravan. Manfred enjoyed life to the fullest by seeking new travel adventures through exploring far away places. Manfred touched us with his tender
spirit and engaging personality. Our
hearts go out to Dot and their family.

Manfred was an important part of my life--a friend, a mentor, and an inspiration. His dedication to core values defined who he was and how he lived his life. Now, it is our responsibility to be what Manfred was for us. In death, Manfred lives.

Native American Prayer

I give you this one thought to keep
I am with you still - I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the sweet uplifting rush,
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone -
I am with you still in each new dawn.
