Paul Cornell Obituary

Cornell, Paul John Jr.
March 2, 1940 - September 13, 2012. Paul, a 41 year resident of Scottsdale, died at the age of 72 peacefully with his family by his side. He was born in St Louis, MO, where he graduated from St. Louis University in 1962, and met the love of his life, Kaye. They married and started a family when they took the leap of faith and moved west to Scottsdale. Paul worked for Motorola/General Dynamics for 22 years. After his retirement, he became very involved with his passions: WWII aircraft, cars, and clocks. He will always be remembered for his loving and playful nature, sage advice, and compassion. Married 49 years to Kaye Ann Cornell, Paul lived an inspirational life. He served his family and community in many capacities. He is survived by his wife and their three children: Cristy Crow (husband, Whitney), Susanne Ahola, Paul John Cornell III. He also has four grandchildren: Philip Ahola Jr., Ellyse Crow, Thomas Ahola, and Sydney Crow. Paul is also survived by his siblings John Cornell (wife, Normandie), Bettie Newburn, and Charlie Cornell (wife, Jean). Paul will be missed by all his family and friends his life has touched. A funeral mass will be held 10 am, Tuesday, September 18th at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 10815 North 84th Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85260. I have not talked with Paul for many years. The first time was in elementary school. We were in the 7th and 8th grade at St. Andrews School in Tipton, MO. In the early 70's we moved to Scottsdale and reconnected for several visits with our families. We left the area and lost touch. Just wanted to express my sympathies to Kaye and the rest of the family. Joyce Knipp Donahue, Gilbert, AZ

Paul was a really good guy. I worked with him for years at Motorola/GD, and always liked him. We invited him to our Lion King wedding because we knew he'd enjoy himself because of the whimsical nature of the event. Paul was always a happy guy, and he gladly imparted that happiness on everyone around him. I'm so glad to hear that he went peacefully, with his family at his side. My condolences to his family, he will be missed by many of us.

I didn't know Paul personally until I met him at my father's funeral. That brief time with him told me all I needed to know about him - a truly generous man with a great heart. Thanks, Paul, for being my dad's friend. Enjoy your time together in heaven :)

Kaye and family, my prayers are with you in this time. Paul was one of the kindest, most compassionate and passionate men I have had the honor of meeting. Paul was a friend who was indeed a great blessing to know. If there are P-51s in heaven, Paul is flying 'em with Ted. Blues Skies Paul!

Paul and I were very close as the oldest of many first cousins and were roommates several years in college, with many of the same interests as airplanes and automobiles. We will miss him a lot and wish the very best to Kaye and the kids and grandkids. Sorry we can't be there.
