The Hummingbird & Christmas Wreath
There was no snow on the gravel yard.
The daytime temperature had not fallen below 50°.
It was December in the Valley of the Sun.
The Christmas wreath sparkled with green and gold glitter.
A red satin ribbon tied in a bow cascaded from the top.
To welcome the holidays to the small abode.
As I sat on the sofa with my chocolate pup by my side, the enchanting creature hovered inside the open front door.
Without a moment's notice, the hummingbird came in to inspect the Christmas wreath's flora and then was gone.
Such a sweet gift to remind me of nature‘s closeness.
Happy Christmas from the desert.

Laurene has the knack for writing the most beautiful poems for you, Paul! Me, well I have to resort to finding music and/or quotes that I find fitting. I surely didn't forget you on your birthday... I posted the following on fb: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkmO5acqOXE&feature=share
a wonderful song to describe how I feel and this quote: "Every man's life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguish one man from another." ~Ernest Hemingway~
I love you and 'I miss you'... ALWAYS, with love, your sister Catherine*

When my chocolate velvet-eared pup points his noise up and sniffs the air, then I know your spirit is in the room. Time here continues to stretch on like an endless Texas highway.
I am thankful for your spirit which visits from time to time. I am reminded to raise my eyes to take in the cerulean blue sky and the shapes of the clouds. Also, to pay attention to the night sky as the moon grows from a sliver to a full one, again and again.
You will always be missed, but know that your special spirit lives on in my life. Happy birthday and thank you for being my brother, then & now.

My Dear Brother Paul, I know I haven't written in some time... but you and I both know that we have our daily conversations... just between us! It has been quite a difficult year and I have been at a loss for words (believe it or not). Coping with your loss has been something I never could imagine. Then, to lose Dad and Mark Lindsey in less than a year later, virtually hours apart... well, speechless. Please give daddy a hug from me. And Mark too, of course. Mark was a great comfort to me with our very frequent phone calls. I miss you all and the animals that followed (sigh) I am happy for you that you have company for your birthday though sad for us here. We'll celebrate you again at the Olive Garden and remember all the good times we have shared. I am including a pic of the little Angel mom bought for each of us after we were born... no surprise that yours has a broken wing AND a Dr's bag!!!! One look at those big, blue eyes and there's no mistaking it's YOU!
Happy Birthday, Paul I love you, Always... Your sister, Catherine*

There is a full Moon in the sky tonight. Do you see it from the other side? If it were transparent, would I see you?
A father, a brother, a good friend. Each gave more than they would ever take. Their time here had come to an end.
I remember my Dad’s backyard gardens. In every house we ever lived in. On the smallest plot that was his land.
I remember my brother loved to cook. He knew all the right ingredients. He gave me lessons, but not sure it took.
I remember the coffee aroma in my good friend’s kitchen. And all of the animals welcoming me in. Sit and stay awhile was the message they were pitchin’.
Each man enjoyed life’s simple pleasures.
Now they peacefully lay in the clouds and breathe the wind.
There’s no doubt, death is life’s saddest moment.

THE GHOST OF A FLOWER
"You're what?" asked the common or garden spook
Of a stranger at midnight's hour.
And the shade replied with a graceful glide,
"Why, I'm the ghost of a flower."
"The ghost of a flower?" said the old-time spook;
"That's a brand-new one on me;
I never supposed a flower had a ghost,
Though I've seen the shade of a tree."

I clearly feel your presence here today, Paul... Happy Birthday!!!!:) Bittersweet as it may be, we will celebrate your memory on this, your 51st year. You did teach me a lot, but mostly I've learned NOT to take for granted what means most to us in this life. And oh, "don't put off 'til tomorrow..." you know that one. I've put together another slideshow in hopes that others can enjoy YOU :) Here's the link:

August 27 When I was just one you came into this world as my new little brother. When we were all grownup, I counted on you for advice, so many times. As we all find out, thyme flies! When I was fifty-one, you left for a better place. Today is a day to remember who you were. You were my friend, my confidant, my wise, kind, compassionate brother. I will hold close your view of every edible thing as absolutely delicious and every living thing as absolutely beautiful! You are now free as you will ever be. I love you & miss you with all my heart. Your sister, Laurene

I know you're smiling down on me though and wishing me another happy, happy! I did take the day off, that must count for something! 8 more days until YOUR birthday...we'll celebrate then!Love you, miss you... Always, your sister Catherine

Hi Paul, it's your sister Catherine! I wanted you to know that I made a photo slideshow from pictures mom had of you from childhood on and it was so nice to take that walk down memory lane. I'll be making extra copies for everyone and letting them choose a song for the background, so it will have that personal touch. I will add some photos on this site now and then, I hope you don't mind, but I think we'll enjoy seeing you looking back at us from the pages! :) Bye for now. Love forever, your sister Catherine

To my cousin Paul, it has been so many years since we have seen each other or even spoken, but I can still see that huge smile you always had!! That is the memory I will hold forever..
To his parents and family, my aunt & uncle and cousins, to the extended family, there are no words that can make the pain go away with the loss of someone so dear and close to you. WE must all remember, he has not left us forever, but he has moved on in the next phase of life and we shall all meet again someday and I know Paul will still be smiling as he greets each and every one of us. May he rest in peace.
