Robert Steadman Obituary

Steadman, Robert H.
of Sun Lakes, AZ, died peacefully in the comfort of his home on Feb. 8, 2011, after battling complications from an illness. Cherished by many, Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and an avid golfer known for his dry sense of humor. Born Jan. 28, 1931 in South Jordan, UT, he spent many years in farming in Idaho. He owned a John Deere dealership in Preston, ID and held government offices in South Jordan and Preston. Bob loved golfing and was the developer, operator, and president of the Thunder Canyon Golf Course and Country Club in Lava, ID in the early 70's. When he moved to Sun Lakes, AZ 30 years ago, he continued his love affair with golf, frequenting the local courses. Bob also had a great fondness for model railroading, and had acquired a unique collection of model trains and accessories. He was one of the original founders of the Arizona Big Train Operators, an outdoor garden railroad club, and was instrumental in the club's train layout at the Phoenix Children's Hospital. A longtime member of the Shortline Model Railroad Club of Sun Lakes, Bob and his wife traveled extensively in Europe and the Far East, riding trains of all types with fellow rail fans. Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara Steadman; three children, Lynette Parker, Don, and Stuart; stepchildren, Brant, Richele, and Denise; and by 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was prededed in death by his parents, Joseph and Hortence Steadman, long time Utah residents; his brother Barrett; his sister Betty; and his wife of 54 years, Rose Marie. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm, Tues., Feb. 15, at Bueler Mortuary, 14 W. Hulet Dr., Chandler, AZ. Funeral services are planned for 10 am Wed., Feb. 16, also at the mortuary. Interment will follow at Valley of the Sun Cemetery.
