Ruth Nelson Obituary

Nelson, Ruth Marie
89, of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away August 14, 2009. Ruth was born in Valparasio, NE on January 22, 1920 to the late Rudolph and Marie Sklenar. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne E. Nelson and her brother, Rudolph Sklenar. Ruth had a brief career as a dental assistant in the town of Wahoo, NE, but spent most of her life being a homemaker. Ruth's greatest joys came from being a loving wife and mother to her children, providing a warm and nurturing home. She loved cooking, entertaining and gardening. Ruth moved frequently following her husband's career, living in Nebraska, St. Louis, MO, Prairie Village, KS, Bridgewater, NJ and Lenexa, KS, which felt most like home to her. Ruth moved to Scottsdale, AZ three years ago to be closer to family. She is survived by her sister, Irma Sklenar, of Lenexa; daughter, Jan Goetze (Bruce), of Scottsdale, and son, Dr. Ken Nelson (Helen) of Wichita. She is also survived by her much loved grandchildren, Brett Arthur (Diane), Laurie Boquist (Tim), Blake Nelson and Kate Nelson, three great grandchildren and many dear friends. Services will be held at 2PM, Saturday, August 22, 2009, Hansen Desert Hills Chapel, 6500 E. Bell Rd., Scottsdale. Contributions may be made to The Crisis Nursery, 2334 E. Polk St., Phoenix, AZ, 85006.

I will always remember Ruth as a very dear friend who became my "second mother" when my mother was not around and especially following my mother's death. My last visit with Ruth in Scottsdale last March was enjoyed by us both in our shopping (her people watching from her wheel chair and me doing the shopping), lunch in a quaint little resturant she and Jan had always enjoyed, and a lesiurely drive to and from this little town north of Phoenix. I thank God for this one last visit with this awesome lady who always saw the good in all people. She will be missed!

I missed Ruth, once she moved out of our neighborhood. I would run into her and her sister quite frequently at the grocery store and the dugstore. They were always smiling and laughing. She was such a sweet lady that will be missed by many! Barb Nolan (Ken's sister-in-law)

We really missed Ruth after she moved but she was always in our hearts and on our minds. We had such fun drinking wine in our neighborhood circle or sharing a joke that she said "I can't tell my kids that!" We will never forget her .

Ruth was such a wonderful lady! She ALWAYS had a smile on her beautiful face. She loved her family and extended family. She's always had a special place in my heart. WOW! She cooked the BEST crescent rolls! One of the most giving people I've ever known...we love you Ruth & Family.

To all of you, family and friends, my heart is feeling pain and my thoughts and prayers are with you. Ruth was such a wonderful woman and her presence was always enjoyed. She touched more lives than you all know. I will be thinking of you in the days ahead. -pucka. (Ken's sister in law)
