Steven Buchanan Obituary

Steven B. Buchanan Steve Buchanan passed away at home August 27, 2005. Steve will be remembered as a beloved husband and father, son, brother, and friend. Steve was born in 1954 to Sylvia and George Buchanan. He settled in Arizona in 1981 and his parents soon followed. In 1992, Steve met his great love, Jamie Drinkwater. They were married in 1992 and were blessed with two children. Steve is survived by his mother Sylvia Buchanan of Cave Creek, his wife Jamie Drinkwater Buchanan and two children, son Bryce and daughter Kelsie of Carefree; his sister and brother in law Linda and Ronald Holzschu, their children, nephew Alexander and niece Samantha of Naperville, IL; his aunt Constance Kooi of Cave Creek; his mother in law Jackie Drinkwater of Scottsdale and his brother in law Mark Drinkwater also of Scottsdale. As a young man, Steve was always of two minds, the inside and outside. During his youth spent in the Boys Scouts earning the highest ranking title of Eagle Scout, he honed his love of the outdoors and exploration. He developed leadership and service talents that would serve him throughout his life. As an adult, he studied tax law and earned his B.B.A. from Western Michigan University. These two philosophies seemed so divergent; he was a brilliant businessman and a true adventurer. His spirit and voracious love of life inspired friends and family alike. When he started his impressive career as a Certified Public Accountant with Toback & Company, he would never have imagined that his true passion would be for real estate. It gave him more time with his young family and allowed him to work with his closest friends and family. Steve started his real estate career as the CFO for Case Group Real Estate Development Company before becoming senior partner at Biltmore Holdings. Later, he founded Certified Realty Services, a successful property management company. A well-known expert in tax law and development, he was a frequent contributor to radio talk shows. Over the past 15 years, he planned and developed more than 50,000 acres of land around the state and he was a recognized multi-family housing expert. For the past 25 years, Steve's leadership has benefited numerous community organizations including raising the Sanctuary for the Congregational Church of the Valley at Scottsdale AZ. Most of his dear friends knew him as the soccer and basketball coach of his children's teams. Those Eagle Scout days developed into a love of the outdoors that defined him as an adult. He was always to be found entertaining and enjoying his time in Pinewood and at Thousand Islands in New York with his extended family. First with a laugh and a toast, Steve brought people together with his humor and charm. An avid tennis player, hiker, boater, golfer and skier, you could always find him outside, tinkering with new toys or teaching the children a new skill. Steve's memory and spirit lives on in his family, especially Jamie, Bryce and Kelsie and all of his friends around Arizona and back home. A Celebration of Life service will be on Friday, September 2nd at 10:00a.m. at Congregational Church of the Valley, 12001 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale, AZ. A reception will follow at Grayhawk Country Club Fairway House, 8620 E. Thompson Peak Pkwy in Scottsdale. Donations in honor of Steve's memory can be sent to the Congregational Church of the Valley in Scottsdale AZ, or the American Diabetes Assoc. at 8125 N. 23rd Ave. Phoenix, AZ 85021

Jamie

We just learned of Steves passing. As we become older and wiser we look back at our memories, the highs and lows, with a sense of nostalgia.

I will always remember my days at Toback with a feeling of family. Steve was always part of that. We had many shared memories and it is with a sense of loss that both Debbie and I extend our sympathy to you and your family.

Dear Jamie and Family,

We were so upset when we heard today of Steve's passing. We want you to know that you and your entire family are in our prayers. Steve did so much for the community and for your family, he will be greatly missed by all. We know there is very little comfort that anyone can give you with the many questions that are going through your mind during these times, but please rest your mind that Steve will be with you and the kids for many years to come. His love will stay with you and guide you for the remainder of your life. We love you, the Bielli Family.

Dear Jamie,

Please accept from my family our heartfelt condolences at your loss of Steve. Steve was truly a remarkable man, talented, kind, loving and a friend to all. I’m sure that his achievement early in life by earning the distinction of Eagle Scout helped to shape the great man that he became. As our son Jeff prepares to receive his Eagle Scout rank this coming week, I can trust that Jeff will also be prepared to live a fulfilling life in the footsteps of Steve. May God’s love and peace be with you and your family at this difficult time.

Sincerely, Dick and Cynthia Lambert

Dear Jamie and Family,

My sincerest condolensces are with you and your family. Steve and I had some great times and some rough times together. I'll never forget that he taught me how to do Kioki shooters at the Partner/Manager retreat in Sedona. He really knew how to live life and his laugh was extremely contagious.

My biggest regret is that I hadn't seen him for quite a few years and I would have really liked to have known him better after he found peace and joy with his family and career.

Take care and may God Bless,

Barry

Dear Jamie and family:

I am without words after receiving the news of Steve's passing. My sincere thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of sorrow. It was a pleasure to have worked with Steve for a number of years. Even through his battles, I know he found a peace in his later years through the life of his family.
