Wayne Nelson Obituary
Wayne Dell Nelson, 85, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2010 in Oceanside, California. He was born on September 27, 1925 in Racine, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his father, Dell Soren Nelson, his mother, Maytha Olga Nelson and his sisters Olive Nelson and Ruth Nelson. He started his career working with his father in Wisconsin and owned construction companies in Phoenix, Arizona. He retired after more than 40 years as vice president of Goodheart Construction, custom home builders in Phoenix, AZ. Upon retirement he and Pat moved to Oceanside, CA and have resided there for 22 years. He was known and will be remembered as an honorable man, "his handshake was as good as a contract" and "his word was his bond". He is survived by his wife, Ruth "Pat" Nelson, of 43 years and daughters Vicki Soderquist (Peter Soderquist), Kerry Thomas and sons Mark Nelson (Maggie Nelson), Wade Nelson and Kim Poor (Sally Poor). He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Michael, Scott, Stacy, Breanna, Allen, Kelsey, Katy, Ryan, Nathan and Jake as well as five great-grandchildren: Taylor, Tanner, Alex, AJ and Isabela. A memorial service is not being held at his request.

Ruth,
I feel as if I knew Wayne even though I was never privileged to meet him in person. The miles from SC to CA were so great; however, the pictures you sent and the letters you wrote helped me know he was a special husband to you. As I read his obituary, I got to know him even better. Many were the times I prayed for him. I felt as if he really was a friend I wish I could have known him better. You are daily in our prayers as you adjust to life without him. May the presence of the Lord and your good memories of the years be a comfort to you in the days to come. Bonnie Tippey

I just want to continue what I mentioned to my e-mail message. I just wish I could have known him longer. He was a great guy to talk with and just to be around. I just returned back to work from the Holiday and I am so sorry to hear about Uncle Wayne. I didn't see Uncle Wayne often but I just loved that man and have so much respect for him. He was such a good person , he will be missed very much.
