William Kellogg Obituary

Kellogg, William Fredric
William Fredric Kellogg, Captain, Medical Service Corps, United States Navy retired passed away suddenly on the 15th of May 2015. Bill was born in 1943 in Wickenburg, Arizona to Frances and Cecil Kellogg. He grew up on their ranch located about 3 miles outside of Wickenburg on the Hassayampa River. During the 1930's and early 1940's, his parents resided in Hollywood, CA and appeared in several classic western films including "The Outlaw" in 1943. After retiring from the motion picture business, they moved back to Wickenburg full time. Bill maintained a strong interest in the significant role his family history played in the settlement of Phoenix (known then as The Salt River Valley) and spent many hours compiling journals to be passed on to the next generation of Kellogg's. A graduate of Wickenburg High School in 1961, Bill earned his Bachelor's Degree from Arizona State University in 1967, completed a residency in medical technology at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, CA, and received a Master's Degree from Wayne Street University. He commanded the Naval School of Health Sciences in San Antonio, Texas directing the Navy's Joint Medical Training with the US Army. During the 1990/91 Persian Gulf War, he established the first joint service blood distribution system and transfusion service in Saudi Arabia for the United States Marine Corps Fleet Marine Force a und US Central Command. Later stationed in Japan, he led the development of the first tri service managed health care system in the Pacific and Asia Region. After retiring in Japan in 1998 he did consulting work with a biomedical firm in Tokyo. Following his retirement, Bill transferred with his wife Janice, a career Navy Nurse to Puerto Rico until her retirement in 2001 enjoying golf, diving and travel. In the years following retirement, Bill and Janice shared time at their homes in North Carolina and Arizona before settling full time in Anthem, AZ. Always busy, Bill enjoyed golf, tireless attention to detail to landscaping his yard, jazz, cooking al fresco, and enjoying the company of friends. Bill is survived by wife Janice of 22 years, his son William "Ric" Fredric Kellogg, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV and Las Colinas, TX; Ric's children: Lindsay, Benjamin, and John; his daughter Amanda Marie Kellogg of San Marcos, CA and her son Jacob. I was deeply saddened to hear of the loss of my friend, class mate and room mate at ASU. We had fun and exciting times together. Joan and I had renewed our friendship after many years and were looking forward to a winter vacation with he and Janice. We always enjoyed our visits with them. Bill was a special person that I admired and respected. We will miss him. Joan and I send our deepest sympathies to his loving wife Janice.

Will miss my true friend.
Always gave truly a treasure of experiences. He was like the older brother I never had. Will miss the many engaging moments. Looking forward to seeing his memoirs. His life is worthy of a book. Truly one of the most interesting men on the planet. Laughter eating joking and writing and editing and historical bloviating are now memories that I have had with "The Kellogg legend"
Janice we love you.
