William Twigger Obituary

Twigger, William James
96, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 12, 2017. Born in Pittsburgh, PA on March 25, 1920, he was a graduate of Carrick High School. Bill served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in the battle of Okinawa. Both his career as a customs broker in Pittsburgh and his avocation as an organist and choir director in several churches in the greater Pittsburgh area lasted for 56 years. Bill and his beloved wife June shared 66 years of marriage prior to her death in 2013. Together they had relocated to Glendale, AZ in 2005 to be close to their daughter. Bill continued to play organ and piano for most of the eleven happy years he spent at Glencroft Senior Living Retirement Community. He was preceded in death by his wife June Logan Twigger and sister Mabel Speicher. He is survived by his devoted daughter Nancy Twigger of Phoenix, AZ, his dear sister Jane Haney of State College, PA, and many loving nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service at 3 PM on Sunday, January 29, 2017 in the auditorium at Glencroft. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Glencroft's Friendship Foundation, Inc., 8611 N 67th Ave, Glendale, AZ 85302.

Pastor Bill and I loved your motherand father, Nancy. They taught us a lot about life and love. Bill served so sacrificially in our church both in using his musical ability and in leadership on our church council. The last time we saw Bill in Providence Place, he was pointing us to someone else besides himself to minister to. He had such a precious servant heart.

With sadness I read about your father Nancy. We enjoyed so many good times when we lived in Glenshaw starting our families. You and Debbie played on the swing set. I am glad that you had the pleasure of having your parents out there with you the last several years. It was special when they looked me up a few years ago and I talked to both of them. Many memories. Take care. With love, Nancy Purdy, Verona, PA

I send condolences for your loss.

I have fond memories of Bill Twigger, our organist for many years at Memorial Park Church in McCandless Twp.
Always a gentleman. Always upbeat with a cheerful and friendly personallity. I was a member of the choir and I'm sure his greatest frustration was trying to make a soloist of me. It never worked.
I was there for volume.
Bill was a good man and he will be missed.
