Marilyn Beardslee Obituary

MARILYN JOYCE BEARDSLEE

April 14, 1948 – April 25, 2025

Tehachapi – Marilyn Joyce Beardslee died of cancer at age 77 on April 25, 2025. A resident of Stallion Springs, Tehachapi, for 30 years, Marilyn arrived in Bakersfield in 1993 to take a position as an urban planner specializing in transportation. A perpetual extrovert who adapted with uncommon ease, Marilyn's Midwestern roots belied her natural outgoing friendliness.

She was born in Dayton, Ohio, to a Chicago-born U.S. Air Force officer, Warren Beardslee, and his wife Winifred, herself a native Daytonian. Marilyn arrived in Southern California in 1967. She earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees in urban planning at California State University Northridge.

Marilyn possessed many different passions: driving and sports cars; wine and fine foods; country music; a voracious reader, and always a lover of conversation and good times.

She was predeceased by her parents and is survived by one brother, Douglas, a resident of Los Angeles.

Marilyn was a valued friend-and much more-for both my family and me. At work, she gained a reputation for her exceptional writing skills, always expanding our vocabulary while striving for excellence. I´ll never forget when she masterfully merged our Regional Transportation Plan and Environmental Impact Report into a single, seamless document-earning praise from our review agencies. Her dedication and talent were unmistakable, and her absence is deeply felt. Marilyn is greatly missed.

Marilyn was a high school friend and we connected years later on Facebook. She had a very quick wit that I enjoyed. I was saddened to learn that she passed away... I will miss her!
