Mary Martinez Obituary

Mary was born in Bryan, Texas, to Nellie Lopez and Juan Rodriguez. Her family moved to California when she was about one year old, and they eventually made Bakersfield home.

Mary attended Mt. Vernon School, Sierra Jr. High, East Bakersfield High, Foothill High, Bakersfield College, and University of Phoenix. During her lifetime, she worked at Ted's department store, Bolthouse Farms, and eventually in 1978 began employment with the County of Kern, where she ultimately retired from the Department of Human Services in 2011.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother; father; and brothers, Jeff, David, Danny Lopez, and Raymond Juarez. She is survived by her daughter, Eva Navejas; son, Ruben Navejas Jr. (Evelyn); her angel, Jessica; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; sisters, Juanita Lopez (Rico), Alicia Lopez, Rosemary Ramos; many nieces and nephews.

Mary was also blessed with her "chosen sisters," Rosie, Sarah, and Yvonne. Family would like to thank Dr. Schlearth, Dr. Cohen, Dr. Castanera, and the girls from PAL.

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 13th, from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m., and service to follow at 10:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Till we meet again...

I met Mary in grammar school and were very close through high school and during her first marriage. We lost touch in the past years, I will always remember the fun we had together, her laugh especially. She was one of my very best friends, I loved her and will miss her.

One cannot imagine the courage you summoned to fight the battle you fought. That you kept you humor and your beautiful smile is typical of your loving nature. This world will not be the same without you and your shy humor. I shall miss you Mary, everything about you. Most of all, I will miss your loving ways and your kind, generous heart. Rest you well my darling friend. You are in the loving arms of our Lord now. Your friend, Darla
