Stanley Haymaker Obituary
May 14, 1942 – October 14, 2024
Stanley W Haymaker of Bakersfield, California passed away on October 14, 2024, at Brookdale Memory Care after a hard-fought battle with dementia. Stan was born in Warren, Ohio on May 14, 1942, to Stanley O. and Anna Haymaker. He was their only child. Stan attended local schools in Warren. At his father's request he attended engineering school at Chase Western and Ohio State University. During a college break on his way home, Stan decided to leave Ohio and hitch-hiked to California to join his former high school buddies that were in a band.
Since playing in a band did not provide a steady income, Stan worked in a bank before becoming a Santa Monica Police Officer. Leaving the police department to join Transamerica Occidental Life Medicare Administration for many years. His last position as a Medicare Hearing Officer brought Stan to Bakersfield in 2004, where he met his future wife, Betty Riehl.
Stan enjoyed taking his family and a large group of friends camping in Yosemite for a week every year until the birth of twin grandchildren and Covid broke his 30-year record. Stan also enjoyed camping with the Rovers and Sundowners every month always with his dog Maggie at his side.
Stan loved to sing Barbershop (tenor) and sang with many different quartets at various functions in town. In 2002, his quartet won the Far Western District Senior Quartet Championship.
Stan is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Riehl, son Scott of Los Angeles, daughter Heather (Corey) Capps of Huntington Beach, grandchildren Cheyanne, Connor, Savanna, Mackenzie, Lacey, one stepdaughter and four stepsons. Stan was preceded in death by his parents Stanley O and Anna M Haymaker and his infant son, Kevin.
Graveside services were held at Crown Hill Burial Park in Warren Ohio.
The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Memory Care and Hoffmann Hospice for their kind compassion and support throughout a very difficult time.
