Thomas Strawn Obituary

Thomas (Tommy) Strawn February 17, 1927 - July 14, 2010 On Wednesday, July 14th, 2010 our beloved Thomas (Tommy) Strawn peacefully left this world and entered his eternal home in Heaven with his Lord, Jesus Christ. Though we will miss him, we know he is in a better place, pain free, strong and able to play his country music! Thomas E. Strawn was born February 17th, 1927 to Reginald and Nola Strawn in Arkansas. He was proud to be an American, serving in the military at the end of World War II and in the Korean War, where he received a Purple Heart. In 1947, he married Lorena Louise Strawn and made their home in McFarland, CA. Together, they had three children, Teresa, Tracy and Tamara. Though the marriage ended, the respect for one another remained through the years. Tommy later married Elva, his wife of 41 years. He and Elva raised their two children, Kathryne and Cheyne in Tulare, CA. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ellis and sister Lorene. He is survived by his loving wife, Elva Strawn, his children, Teresa Elam (Rick) of Texas, Tracy Strawn of North Carolina, Tamara Erberich (Bob) of Bakersfield, Kathryne Martins (Fernando) and Cheyne Strawn of Tulare. Also remembering their Grandpa Tommy are; Denise Joslin, Brent Elam, Nick, Blake and Chad Erberich, Emily Rimstead, Alyssa Gallagher, Kassie, Kymber and Tiani Martins, as well as five great-grandchildren. Tommy is survived by his precious sisters, Jewel Martin (Jack) of Bakersfield, Floy Mobbs of Arkansas and Peggy Atchley (Dale) of Arkansas. He will be missed by his beloved brothers, Jimmy Strawn and Danny Strawn (Frieda) of Arkansas. He was also loved by many nieces, nephews and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at the Bakersfield National Cemetery at 30338 E. Bear Mountain Blvd. on Friday, August 20th at 2:00pm with Military Honors. www.bakersfield.com/obits

Tommy had an enfluence in my life. We used our WWII GI Bill to become Pilots in Delano. Tommy will be missed by Family and friends and by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. He showed his loyalty to his Country by his service in the US Army in WWII and in Korea where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Tommy was a true War Hero.
