I fondly remember Mr. Scanlon at Golden State Jr. High. He was one of the few teachers there that made learning fun. He truly cared about the children whose lives he touched. His legacy will live on in all of us. My thoughts and prayers go out to all his family, and all whose lives were made just a little brighter because he passed their way.

Shocked and sadened at the death of our cousin Tim, a real gentleman, a man you would sit down and talk with, and never ask to get up,I met him three times in all , and from the first time we met , i felt we had known each other for years, so considerate, so gentle,so thoughtfull,he really would have loved to have the whole Scanlon clan meet every couple of years, i hope in the future as a momento to Tim we might be able to have a family reunion, the family is so scattered it will be a big ask i know, but i think it would be worth it , i am sure Tim will help us in every way he can, maybe on an aniversary ? To Tims family and friends and everyone that new him, we in Ireland send our heartfelt sympathy and may God Bless you all May he rest in peace Amen.

Mr. Scanlon always had a smile on his face and an infectious laugh. He was never afraid to laugh at himself. When I was transferred to Kern Ave. School has called me to tell me how thrilled he was. That special feeling has always made me happy. I loved working on his teaching staff.

Mr. Scanlon was part of the University of La Verne family. He was an exceptional student teacher supervisor. I had the pleasure of working with him as a professional and I could not get past calling him Mr. Scanlon. In my eyes, he was always my Kern Avenue Principal - Mr. Scanlon. He would say, "you can call me Tim." He was a very sweet person.

The University of La Verne sends the family our condolences.

I was blessed to have Tim in my parish. He was a faithful man who lived out his beliefs. He loved his children and grandchildren and, as one can tell from the words of those who have written in, he loved his students.
Tim, may you enjoy a beautiful Christmas in Heaven!

What a shock to hear this news. He was just at our school site! In a recent holiday letter summing up 2011, Tim wrote, "Hope you will be spending Christmas with the people who mean the most to you. And may all the good you have done over your years - to your family and friends, colleagues and strangers -- return double to you during the New Year of 2012." This is truly a Tim Scanlon style Irish blessing and especially meaningful at this time. Those of us who worked with him considered him a colleague AND a friend. We will miss his wisdom, optimism, friendly smile, laughter, and helpfulness. And yes, we knew that his family was very important to him and he cherished his time with all of you. We wish you comfort in your faith and memories of good times with him.

Mr. Scanlon was my elementary school teacher and I always think of him fondly. I got in trouble ONE time and he was supposed to "paddle" me (yes back when paddling was legal) but he chose stern words instead and they were words that had a big impact on me and kept me out of trouble since. He was a great person.

Dear Scanlon family, I am very sorry for your loss.

While I have not seen or spoken to Mr. Scanlon in many years, I know that we would certainly pick up right where we left off before I moved away from McFarland.

There are a lot of his former students that will miss him. I do know that he fulfilled what God put him here to do and that was to touch many lives of students in the small farming community of McFarland. He encouraged all of his students to be the best they could be .

Oh Mr Scanlon, you were without question one of my favorite childhood memories. You made dealing with my family and personal issues bearable.
I was fortunate enough to see Mr Scanlon's son Tiim on facebook a year or so ago and he put us in touch. At our lunch meeting, I gained insight into what made this man so great--His heart was bigger than my problems.
As he shared his memories of our class, (that our group was so smart that he HAD to teach us how to play chess and how he read "Where the Red Fern Grows" without pre-reading it and how we all cried during the sad parts) I could see that this was a man who LOVED to teach. He not only loved to teach, but he had a heart for the people who he was teaching. His special technique for me to deal with my issues are still in use by me today.
I spoke to him of my current graduate studies, and he spoke to me of his work at La Verne with the PhD program. I thought I might just be a student of his again one day.
I left our lunch happy, and thought of how nice it would be to have our class gather as adults for a reunion. Sadly, that didn't happen.
So now, I am left here, sad, and proud because MY life was made better by Mr Scanlon.
God bless you sir.
May God bless his family too. Please be strong and know that the man you shared with us has had a special impact in our lives and we love both him and you too.
Peace
