Alice's Images Cafe in Charles Village was a wonderful haven for lots of fun and creative people. I moved here from Indiana in 1992 and immediately fell in love with Alice and her cafe. I immediately met so many great people - Kimberly, Louis, Marinette, Silvija, "Little" Kimberly, the astronomer (name?) and lots of others. Alice was always interesting and stimulating. It was always a treat to see her immense dog, Andy. I recall Marty's flowers and the energy of the interactions. Louis took a b/w photo of the metal tables chained together outside in the snow and I have always had it up as a remembrance. We alway loved purchasing the small, scented candles and her consignment jewelry and cards. After Marinette's passing, a friend of hers gave me a ceramic dish from Images and it has been out in my living room since then. Alice had a great eye for design and for bringing people together!

I recently learned of Alice's passing and send my condolences to Martie and her family. I lived at 3100 Saint Paul Street and spent many, many fun and interesting days at Images Cafe with Kimberly, Silvija, Lewis, little Kimberly and many others from Charles Village. Once I scared Andy, her large dog, and he bit me in the behind. It was fine. I even have a photo that Lewis took of the outdoor tables in the snow, all chained together. Alice was sensitive, intelligent, and a celebrity in Charles Village. I see her holding court in Heaven and I have been blessed to have know her and experienced the warmth and energy of Images.
LOVE,
Ms

I met Alice Brock in 1968, when I was a teenager and my family moved to the Cedarcroft neighborhood. I merged in to the flow of the large, lively, musical, Brock household. Alice was at the center of the action. She was such a strong personality, so sharp in her understanding of politics and social forces, so giving and involved in creating community, wherever she went. Her shop, Images, in the 3100 block of St Paul St in Charles Village, which she ran with her daughter, Mardi, was a hub of news and conversation in the 1980s and 90s. At Images, talking to Alice and the people she could introduce you to, you could learn what was going on and how you could participate. Alice was one of the creators of the Baltimore I know and love. I will miss her very much.

Alice was passionate about serving persons struggling due to poverty or homelessness and a did a lot to make the world more humane in her lifetime!! one of her skills --- is that She loved to edit grants and written materials, with great detail. I recall her days at DSS at the Women's Housing Coalition and her store in Charles Village.
She was a woman of strong spirit and will.
Rest in Peace Alice!

An amazing woman who was widowed at 45 with the responsibility of 12 children. She remained bright and clear thinking, followed politics and although she had gone blind, knew most political figures in the news by their voices. Her last outing was to get to the polls to vote and wore her 'I voted' sticker proudly.
Her memory remained keen and in spite of her blindness she could give driving directions to just about any place in Baltimore and which route to take at what time of day.
She had enjoyed meeting people and friends at her small shop Images in Charles Village that she had in the 80s and 90s.
A loving, wonderful person will be remembered for many wonderful characteristics, and one in particular baking her cookies. I miss her molasses cookies.
I miss your beautiful alto voice.
