Miss you daddy..

November 30, 2017

You taught me to ride and I cherish the times on the farm in Lineboro, MD. Aquarius was the only Shetland pony that you let me ride because Jellytart, our other Shetland was wild. He was a very stubborn pony and it filled my days as a young girl to really learn patience and persistence. Chinaka Chief was my very favorite of all ponies. I loved watching you ride Sugar, the Tennesee Walker ,what a beautiful horse. That garden was a sacred place and again gave me hours of joy. Thanks Dad for always loving the outdoors and showing your family how great it is to live off the land and praise God for all the gifts that he has given us. The gentleman farmer fit you so well. I must say picking the string beans was a pain. I preferred tomatoes or peppers. I was lucky enough to be your daughter. Love you and miss you Dad.

I am missing you Dad.
Thanks for being such a wonderful father.
I love you,

Family of Charlie Evans:

My name is Hall L. Moore, Jr. Charlie (opps! Mr. Evans) was my social studies teacher my senior year at Bel Air High School. Charlie played a major role with his Mount Classmate, Guy Baker, on getting me a scholarship to attend Mount Saint Mary's College. I am, and always will be, deeply indebted to Charlie for all of his help in getting me to not only be accepted at the Mount, but to ensure that I had enough scholarship money to be able to graduate with a double major and a double minor in four years.

An additional gift by being at the Mount was that I met my wife of 45 years who was a student at the old St. Joseph's College.

Currently I am working as a Lay Ecclesial Minister in the Diocese of Rochester, NY. This is a second career for me (7 years now) after nearly 30 years working in drug safety evaluation.

Charlie was also a role model for me on how to be an "ethical person".

My heart goes out to each of you.

Yours in Christ,

Hall L. Moore, Jr.,

I just read about Mr. Evans in the newsletter and I am crushed. :(

But I loved reading all the MDS memories...I'd completely forgotten about his light blue MDS suit jacket for special occasions, kicking the boys off campus, and being the Kindly Gatemaster of the Choir Loft.

I'll always remember how serious Mr. Evans was about directing traffic in the morning - my family and I have joked about it over the years.

Another Mr. E memory...On the London school trip sophomore year, my mother tripped and fell. A year or two later, when my mom saw Mr. Evans again, he said to her "Cathy, last time I saw you, you were tripping around London!" He seemed so proud of himself for coming up with that joke, it was so cute.

Will add more Mr. Evans memories as I remember them...

Thank you Mount DeSales ladies for giving my wonderful daddy the most beautiful send off to our heavenly father above. He was the best Dad anyone could ever have and I have many fond memories of him. We enjoyed the farm so much and he taught me to ride at a young age and I have always cherished all the great days we spent riding and enjoying the farm. I am lucky to be his baby girl and will miss him. He is holding a spot for us in heaven. Thanks to Pat for making the last years on earth for my Dad so terrific....I love you Pat! I love you DAD!!! From all my brothers and sister we thank you all for writing on this guest book ,we have enjoyed reading them all. It allows us to see the teacher that he was meant to be ,please keep writing... Thanks so much!

Thanks for sharing your memories.

Seeing the Mount DeSales girls, past and present, at my Uncle Charlie's funeral made me smile.

He was a true gentleman and I will miss him for the rest of my life.

December 5, 2010

Charlie Evans was a wonderful man and a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He was an extremely dedicated teacher and a friend to all. Everyone loved Charlie and it was a real privilege to work with him for seven years.

Charlie loved his Mount de Sales girls and he was very protective of them. He always watched out for the girls, and he would order the guys off campus if he felt that they were just loitering.

I will truly miss seeing Charlie at the Mount's events that's for sure. However, Charlie is happy being with God so I am happy for him.

One of my favorite memories had to be his "Pop Quizzes". Rumors would start circulating around the Freshman class after first period as to whether there was a Pop Quiz that day. We would all squirm as he passed out those little blue books. He may have been a tough teacher but he was such a sweet man and you could tell how much he cared about all of us. He will be missed but his memories will live on.

I will never forget the special bond that Mr. Evans and I had. He was truly a legend to the Mount de Sales community. I remember on "Shadow Day" of my 8th grade year, the girl I shadowed said, "You picked a great day to come because I have Mr. Evans today." I knew from the moment I walked into that classroom, he was special. He had eveything outlined on the blackboard, so proper, polite, and passionate. When I finally became a sailor, I was lucky enough to have him for Western Civ. I would go visit his classroom all the time, just to talk. Sometimes he would tell me to go back to study hall. But that is how we bonded, we both are strong Republicans. Sophmore and Junior year, I would still visit him and talk his ear off, as he would grasp my wrist. Senior year I was lucky enough again to have him for Maryland history, he taught only one class of it. This is where he truly knew his stuff! Not only did Mr. Evans support me through class, but he would come to our MdeS swim meets. I will never forget when he came to the McDonough meet my senior year, when we beat them for the very first time! Another bonding expierience we had was when he chose me to compete to be a Maryland General Assembly Page in Annapolis my senior year. I was selected to represent Baltimore County. During my time there, I was asked to return to Sine Die, the last day of session. Only 5 out of 100 senate pages were asked back for this. Ah when I told Mr. Evans, he as so excited. I then was awarded an Outstanding Citizenship Award where Mr. Evans came to my ceremony.

Mr. Evans has not only pushed me academically, but he has pushed me to follow my dreams. This semester, I interned at the Republican National Committee. Mr. Evans wrote my letter of recommendation. He inspired me to do my best to make him proud of me. I did not see him as a teacher, I saw him as a grandfather figure. After graduation I would come back to MdeS to visit, but mostly just to see him. We chatted for hour and half in his little Archivist office.

When I heard he was sick, I called him right away. And typical Mr. Evans was positive and told me he was going to be ok. Clearly not wanting me to worry, he never wanted anyone to worry about him. I am so grateful for that 20 minute phone call we had.

To his family, I give you my condolences. Mr. Evans truly was an angel sent to earth by the grace of God.

Mr. Evans, I will never forget you. You were the heart of Mount de Sales. Because of you, I will continue to further my career in conservative politics, I won't let you down.

God Bless. Watch over all the Sailors up there.

I've only talked to Mr. Evans a few times these 4 years I've been at Mount de Sales, one of them recently being this September. That was my favorite conversation with him. He let me see a yearbook from 1966 out of the archives, and I showed him someone I knew that was in it. He told me a little bit of the history behind the yearbook as well. He was very passionate about the school and its history. He will be missed by the students, alumni, faculty, and staff who knew him.

Mr Evans had a lasting impact on me. He was my high school freshman history teacher- but more than that, for years after, he always made me feel special- remembering my name, showing concern and interest in my life. May the soul of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.

I met Mr. Evans in 1998 when I drove our eldest daughter onto the Mount de Sales campus for the first time for her shadow day. He never forgot us after that initial meeting, and he knew and loved all three of our daughters despite the fact that none of them ever had him as a teacher. I had the pleasure of serving on the faculty with him for five years and I will never forget his constant smile and his willingness to help me whenever I needed it. Everyone at Mount de Sales will truly miss him. May he rest in peace!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Evans and his family. Mr. Evans was a true gentleman and an excellent teacher who truely loved his girls and Mount de Sales Academy. He reminded me of Mr. Chips, or an old-school educator with his tall stature, horn-rimmed glasses and tweed jackets. Our daughter is a better person today for having had him as a teacher in her years at Mount de Sales. God bless you Mr. Evans!

I had the privilege of having Mr. Evans as a history teacher and the honor of working with him at MDS for four years. I cannot even begin to describe the impact that he has had on my life. I will always remember the constant smile that was on his face and the way that at the age of 78 he would shoot on the lacrosse goalies for the MDS team before most home games. He was a true gentleman and will be greatly missed by all of those who knew him.

November 29, 2010

Charlie Evans REMAINS such a dear, dear friend!! He truly was an amazing gentleman and meant so very much to all of us! I got to know him at MDSA when I taught there....he will be one of those whom I will eagerly meet in Heaven Someday! God rest his kind soul!

I will always have a special place in my heart for Mr. Evans. He was such a wonderful and genuine teacher who really cared for and loved all of his Mount De Sales girls. I will never forget all his parking lot antics and making sure that every boy who stepped foot on campus knew who he was. Mr. Evans will never be forgotten by his sailors. I think it's safe to say that all of us Mount De Sales girls have an extra angel watching over us. May angels lead you in.

November 29, 2010

Mr. Evans will leave an empty place at Mt de Sales and in the hearts of those he touched; and that is an awful lot of students! The dreaded pop quizzes, pencils through our earrings, and sneaking through the choir loft and knowing that was the "last time I will let you through here" are things I remember 10 years after graduating from MdS. However, I will never forget how sweet and protective he was of all the girls. He was at every event whether it was sports or dances making sure there was "room for the Holy Spirit"; life will never be the same without Mr. Evans there, but I know that he is with God, and he will continue to watch over MdS. May you rest in peace, Mr. Evans.

Mount de Sales is a better place because of Charlie Evans and his memory will live on. I am so very sad to hear of his death but know he is now in a better place. He was truly a man with great faith and it shined through everything he did. I was fortunate to have worked with him as a fellow teacher and then later, he taught my daughters. Charlie cared about his students and remembered them when they would come back to visit. He was also a great fan of sports and would attend many games cheering on his students. To say he was a special person is an understatement. As much as he meant to MDS, he loved his family. My heart and many prayers go out to his family as they come to terms with their loss. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful person with us. God bless.

I only knew Mr. Evans my Freshman and Sophomore year. I didn't know him as a teacher, I knew him as a friend. I remember how excited he was my freshman year when he heard that we were starting a golf team. He never showed one bit of impatience or anger and I am so grateful to have known him. Mr. Evans, you are in our prayers and hearts.

Mr. Evans was a true gentleman and the definition of a class act. As scholars, he challenged us in the classroom. As athletes, he cheered us on from the sidelines. As our brother in Christ, he witnessed to us his tremendous faith. His dedication to the girls and the Sisters at Mount de Sales made our school what it is today. I am sure upon his entrance into Heaven, he was greeted with the words, "welcome home, my good and faithful servant". May his soul and the souls of the faithful departed through the Mercy of God, rest in peace.

Mr. Evans was an institution at Mount De Sales. He was an old school gentleman who was so loved for always sincerely having the best of intentions for everything that he did. If anyone who makes it to the viewing/funeral remembers the words to "If my name was Mr. Evans"(sung by several of the teachers to the tune of "If I had a million dollars" during a talent show one year) sing a few bars for me.

Charlie was one of the best role models for teachers everywhere. He cared about each and every one of "his girls" as though they were his own and had an unshakable faith that each and every MdS student would go on to great things. His support of colleagues was terrific and he will sorely missed. All of us who knew him were changed by his presence in our lives.

My heart sunk when I heard the news about Mr. Evans' passing. He was and will remain a Mount de Sales institution. I will never forget his West Civ class freshman year and all of the times he asked me what I was up to every time I visited after I graduated in 2004. I asked him not to retire until he taught my sister, who was four years behind me, and he kept his word, retiring after teaching her class. I wanted her to have the pleasure of experiencing Mr. Evans and the little quiz books as well. He will be sorely missed by the entire MDS community and anyone who knew him. God bless you, Mr. Evans, and may you rest in peace.

Mr. Evans was "Mr. Mount de Sales." It didn't matter whether you had his World Civ class or not: everyone knew Mr. Evans. I did have his class and can say with pride that I somehow managed to pass some of those pop quizzes, even when all the answers were not on the board. I'm glad I stopped back at MDS to see Mr. Evans a few times after graduating. I just wish I had stopped one more time.

God is lucky to have Mr. Evans by his side. He's amazing. I still thing he's amazing after giving me my first detention for "talking" in class even though I was picking up sarahs pencil and said you're welcome, for yelling at me when my skirt was too short or having rings on or forgetting my metal, and for harassing any guy that came onto the MdeS campus. He ran the GAP program I participated in and hes the reason I went back to de Sales after I graduated in '09. Because of these things and so many other made him the man that he is. Although one of the hardest teachers ever he is by far my favorite. He will never be forgotten and we just have to remember he's always looking down on us and will be ther when we need them. And one day, after we live our lives in the footsteps of his amazing accomplishments, we will be reunited with him. ?

I am sending thoughts and prayers to Mr. Evan's family. I most remember Mr. Evans for welcoming me so kindly when I first came to Mount de Sales in 1993. Even though I did not speak English well, his warm smile made me feel welcome. He encouraged me to keep trying to speak English even when I made mistakes. All of us from Mount de Sales will remember him fondly.

Mr. Evans was an institution at Mount de Sales...I had him as freshman for World history - I remember also how he would yell at us if we tried crossing the third floor using the choir loft - I also remember getting yelled at and my seat changed because I was talking and passing notes in class. I loved Mr. Evans - he was an awesome teacher and a legend at MdeS. He will be truly missed. One of my friends said this on facebook and I totally agree - may God welcome him with open arms. My thoughts and prayers go out his family and his MdeS family as well.

I have often thought of Mr. E over the years after my graduation in '95. I was the most loving and caring person I ever knew. He loved My de Sales and all his girls. A couple of my favorite memories of Mr. E are: When he use to let me cut through his room to go through the choir loft when I was running late and had class on the other side, he of course would always say "girls this is the last time I will allow this". All of the talks about the MD throughbred tracks because he knew my father worked there. And my favorite was his Mt de Sales suit jacket... Jodi G. (Glen Burnie, MD)

I often thought of Mr Evans after I left Mt de Sales in '96. He was a great man and you could tell he absolutely loved being there. A couple of my favorite memories (and there are many!) are his suit jacket he had made out of a Mt de Sales summer skirt fabric and his 'yelling' at us when we would sneak through the choir loft to get to our next class on the 3rd floor. He WAS Mt de Sales and left a lasting impression on many of his students. My thoughts go out to his family.

November 28, 2010

I knew Charlie at Mount de Sales Academy for 15 years. I fondly remember many long conversations with him about education in America, and many political discussions at lunch in my early years at MDSA . He was dearly loved by many students over the years. His regular attendance in the side chapel for First Friday Mass and his directing the communion line will always be remembered by many students. He was frequently a part of the back to school skit and also of the Christmas presentation in years past.
I'll always remember him as one of my best memories of my years at Mount de Sales.
