George Harrison McGee

George Harrison McGee passed away on Tuesday, February 13th, 2024, at the age of 94, surrounded by his family. Preceded in death by siblings, John M. McGee, Virginia McGee Numsen, Robert B. McGee; nephew Joseph W. McGee. Survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) O. McGee, daughter Caroline Rose McGonigle (Scott McGonigle), Sarah Elizabeth (Sally) McGee (Mike Brey), nephews Mark, Kenneth, Todd, Courtney and Graham McGee.

Born to the late C. Mark McGee and Dorothy Rose McGee on December 31st, 1929, in Baltimore, Maryland. Attended Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, and then entered into the Marine Corps. After being honorably discharged from the military, attended Johns Hopkins University, where he graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. Went on to work for Baltimore Gas and Electric Company, where he was employed for 42 years.

Married Elizabeth C. Oakley on August 8, 1959, in Warsaw, Virginia. They lived in Baltimore briefly, before moving to Sykesville, Maryland, where they raised their daughters, and lived for almost forty years.

Was active in church at St. Barnabas Episcopal (Sykesville, MD), enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, woodworking and could build or fix almost anything. Rooted for the Baltimore Colts, the Baltimore Orioles and later, the Baltimore Ravens.

After retirement, George and Betty moved to Warsaw, Virginia. In his final years, he moved to Annapolis, MD to be closer to his daughters. He was surrounded by family on his last day.
