H.S. Taylor White III

H.S. Taylor White III, a Monkton developer who was known for his sharp business aptitudes and bright personality died peacefully on Dec 2 at Gilcrest. He was 95.

Taylor was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth R. White and son Charles Gardiner White

The Former H.S. Taylor White, son of H.S. Taylor White Jr, architect and Wilhelmine Boone White, shop owner, was born in Paris and raised in Baltimore.

After graduating in 1947 from Gilman School Taylor joined the Army Core of Engineers where he graduated at the top of his class of 200 as a 1st lieutenant. He spent two years stationed in Alaska working on the Radar Base.

After leaving the service he worked for Whiting and Turner for 2 years where he worked on building interstate 83.

Taylor then went of on his own and started White Construction Company which he owned and operated until he retired in his late 70's, He was well known for his work ethic and attention to detail. He believed that a hand shake was better then any contract and always kept his wor One of his favorite projects was building Our Lady of Grace Church in Parkton, MD, which is the church the family attended.

He married his wife Betty in 1956 where they settled in Monkton and raised four children. They loved the countryside and riding motorcycles throughout the area. Taylor was one of the original founder's of Baltimore County Trail Riders Association (BCTRA) which is now celebrating 50 years. He was also a team owner and proud sponsor of privateer road racer Dale Singleton with a Daytona 200 win in 1979, 1980 and 1981. He loved helping others achieve their dream.

Taylor was one of the original founders and president of the board of the Jemicy School which started in 1972 and is now celebrating 52 years. Taylors two oldest sons attended a camp for dyslexic students run by David Malin and Joyce Bilgrave. Taylor along with other families requested a school be created for these kids and this was the beginning of the dream to create Jemicy School. The dream continued but the reality was sometimes shaky and not always financially sound. Sometimes a check would bounce and Taylor would say, don't worry, l'll take care of it. ; When repairs were needed, Taylor would say, don't worry, I'll take care of it. Over the years, Taylor weathered the move to Celadon Road, two expansions, two director searches, a shop fire, numerous heating and well problems, and many repair emergencies. Taylor laughed and cried with the staff, attended every graduation, play, and auction. Under his guidance, Jemicy grew to become a financially sound institution. He encouraged board members to focus on issues of financial security and educators to focus on the education of the children. Three of Taylors children and two grandchildren attended Jemicy over the years. Jemicy School was a huge part of Taylors life and something he treasured.

Taylor and his wife also maintained a second home in Cambridge, MD which was a very special place for them. They enjoyed sunset boat rides and playing golf at the Cambridge Country Club. With a cocktail in his hand he would sit on the deck looking over the water and say "This is Simply Delightful." They loved having the grandchildren there playing on the beach and enjoying theie time together.

To know Taylor was to love him. He really did know how to live life to the fullest and always had a smile on his face.

Mr. White was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 19310 Middletown Road, Parkton, where a Mass of Christian Burial which will be offered at 11:00 am on January 4, 2025 with a celebration of his life to follow.

In addition, there will be a memorial service at Jemicy School on February 1, 2025 from 3-5.

Mr. White is survived by three children, H.S. Taylor White IV, of Parkton, Ridgely W. White and Wilhelmine W. Kyger both of Monkton and four grandchildren, Austin W. White, Connor C. Kyger, Mason A Kyger and Ryleigh E. Kyger all of Monkton.
