James Pfefferkorn Obituary

James W. Pfefferkorn was born October 5, 1930 in Baltimore, Maryland. Jim and his first wife, Avis Selby Pfefferkorn (1931-1993), had five children: James, Julie (1956-2018), Jonathan, Alcinda, and Rebecca. Jim remarried and is survived by his wife, Matilda (Tillie) Jones Bayless, whose children include Patti, Anne, George, and Deena Cate. Jim and Tillie have been blessed with 21 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was brother to the late Samuel L., Louis C., and William R. Pfefferkorn, Jane Sharp, and Peggy Pfefferkorn-Cunningham.

Love for family, local history, and agriculture shaped Jim's life. He demonstrated exceptional dedication through a lifetime of volunteer community service, work with his family's farming operation, Pfefferkorn's Coffee, Inc., as well as elected and appointed offices in Howard County government.

Jim died on Monday, March 14, 2022, at Gilchrist Hospice in the care of his family.
