Jane Efron Obituary

Jane Frances Efron, of Pikesville, Maryland, passed away on Friday, April 11th, 2025, at the age of 84.

Jane was born during the Battle of Britain (1940) in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, England and grew up on a farm in Higham Ferrers. She worked at St. George's Hospital in London as a head nurse, where she met the brash surgeon, Gershon Efron. They married and emigrated to New York City. In 1977, Jane and "Effie" moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where she attended graduate school at Notre Dame and became a teacher. She taught high school English at Woodlawn for many years and while there founded and published an annual magazine to highlight her students' writings. She was an avid tennis player and lover of Shakespeare. Most importantly to her, though, was family. She opened her home to nephews and nieces while they studied in Baltimore and absolutely treasured her grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving children, Dr. Jonathan Efron (Jami Terry), Dr. David (Anne) Efron and Dr. Philip (Margaret) Efron, and cherished grandchildren, Alexandra Efron, Evan Efron, Evelyn Efron, Sophia Efron and Henry Efron. Jane was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dr. Gershon Efron; dear siblings, Jon Goosey, Richard Goosey and Robert Goosey; and parents, Margaret (nee Attley) and Ernest Goosey.

Services at Har Sinai Cemetery, 11405 Garrison Forest Road, Owings Mills, MD 21117, on Tuesday, April 15th, 2025, at 3:30 pm. Please omit flowers. Jane was an avid lover of animals, so we ask that contributions in her memory may be sent to ASPCA, 424 E. 92nd Street, New York, NY 10128.

My condolences to the Efron family. Mrs. Efron was the reason I fell in love with writing. Her passion for words lit a fire in me that still burns today. She didn´t just teach-she inspired. She will be solely missed, but her impact lives on in every word I write. Rest well.
