John Eikenberg Obituary

John R. "Bob" Eikenberg, 94, passed away peacefully on June 26 at his home in Ruxton, Md., surrounded by loving family members. He is survived by daughters Patricia Carle (Bob); Julie Volker (Bob); Susan Miles; Jeanne Brignall (Ken); brother Jerry; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Millie, his loving wife of 68 years, and sons Steve and Jim.

Born in Baltimore on Jan. 2, 1931, he was a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and later added a B.S. degree in Management from Rutgers University and a M.S. degree in Finance from George Washington University.

He enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 and served for four years, including a tour in Korea during 1951 and 1952. Upon his discharge in 1955 he began a successful business career starting with the Glenn L. Martin Co., then RCA, and culminating in 1992 with his retirement from the Westinghouse Electric Corporation after 30 years of service.

Personal interests included extensive travel, both USA and abroad, with his wife, Millie; a 30-year association with the Maryland Senior Olympics as a competitor, administrator, Chairman of the Board and selection to its Hall of Fame in 2006; and coaching numerous sports in which his 6 children participated. Other interests included membership in MENSA; the Society of Logistics Engineers (S.O.LE.), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (I.E.E.E.). He was also a three-time winner of the York County, PA Senior Spelling Bee.

There will be a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 100 Church Lane, Cockeysville, MD 21030. www.HartensteinCares.com
