Marie White Obituary

Marie Darlene White, a devoted educator and freedom fighter, passed away on February 22nd, 2023, in Columbia, Maryland at the age of 71.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 6th, 1951, Marie was a passionate, intelligent and an advocate for social justice and equality. She was the 2nd oldest of seven children who she loved and saw as her "first" children. She attended Penn State and later went to Antioch College in Howard County Maryland. Throughout her life, Marie dedicated herself to improving the lives of those around her.

Marie's early career focused on nursing and she later returned to school to focus on early childhood education. She worked as a babysitter and nanny before eventually finding her calling at Ed-u-care Learning Center and All Aboard Learning Center. She was a beloved teacher who touched the lives of countless children, always striving to make a positive difference.

With a heavy heart, we remember the cherished life of a beloved mother, who showered her children Seikou (Deceased), Nzinga, Karanja and Nefretari White with unconditional love. She was a grandmother to Yasmine, Idris, Jibril, Sadiq, Kenza and Ezra-Sei White, as well as Naima, Nasir, Nakai and Nakosi Paul - a true matriarch who touched the lives of many. She was a cherished sister to George, Richard, John, Linda, Barry and Keith. Though she may have left us, her legacy of love and care will live on forever in the hearts of those she touched.

In her free time, Marie enjoyed music, movies, reading and discussing books. She also loved spending time in nature, taking long walks and finding sanctuary in the beauty of the world around her. Marie also appreciated the simple pleasures of life, enjoying tasty foods and wines, and spending time with her family. On occasion, she would also visit Everyone's Place in Baltimore to connect with her cultural roots.

Marie's impact on those around her was profound. Her passionate words could sometimes break people, but her intent was never to harm; rather, it was to lift spirits and broaden people's consciousness. Her positive influence was felt by all who knew her, as she encouraged people to be truthful to themselves and to be honorable. She gave her heart and soul to everyone she encountered, and her warmth and caring nature were truly endearing. Marie also had a creative spirit that inspired those around her to tap into their own creativity.
