Dear Holt Family,

Congresswoman Holt has now received her place among the great women who graced this life. She was an angel here on earth, and represented all that is good and kind and loving while here. I never met your mother, but she had a tremendous impact on families with loved ones who required special needs to continue their education. Your mother nearly 50 years ago helped a family member obtain access to resources to go to private schools in order to meet special educational needs. Your mother was accessible, responsive, caring and true to her word. She kept in touch, wrote letters, called, and responded to the information that was needed. I'm sure that she impacted many, many lives beyond ours. So, I wanted to share on their behalf, those who many have preceeded her in death, those who did not learn of her passing, and those who may not been able to share with you who truly special she is. I pray for your family; I pray for our country; and that more Congresspeople live up to the standard and model that she set. God bless you and peace.

To the Holt family, you have my deepest sympathies for the loss of such a grand woman. I have fond memories of growing up with you in Linstead and have the highest regard for Marjorie, your mother and grandmother. A couple of things that stand out in my mind from way back when, are ice skating on the Cove behind your house and parties in the rec room. Its so nice that so much of the family were able to stay in Linstead. Blessings to all.

To the family of Marjorie, in particular Vicky, I wish to convey my deepest sympathies on behalf of brothers and me. As a family friend that I recall being able to call anytime even after in office, I was so proud of her for being elected to Congress, a position that seemed to not alter her gracious manner. I had forgotten that your father also worked at Westinghouse as did mine. So many memories, so sad to lose her; my heart goes out to you.

Congresswoman Marjorie Holt was a wonderful influence on many of us who would not be in public service but for her support and guidance. U.S. District Judge Richard D. Bennett

Dear Holt Family,
I wanted to express my sincere condolences on the passing of Marjorie. She was a great leader and colleague. I served in the House of Representatives with her from 1976-1986 when she retired and I went to the US Senate. As a Congresswoman she focused on commitment - to her constituents, the economic needs of her district and the National security needs of our country. She was always civil, willing to listen and find common ground in getting things done. It was a pleasure to work with her when she served. There were four women in the House MD Delegation - Marjorie Holt, Bev Byron, Gladys Spellman and myself. Connie Morella and Helen Bentley came in 1986. One of the fun facts of the MD Women Role was Marj, Bev and myself all represented parts of Howard County. We regularly planned county visits together to show we were one country, one nation and one world together. Her constituent services were legendary - helping our Seniors and Veterans were her forte. Though more of a fiscal conservative than me - we absolutely agreed on protecting Social Security and Veterans Health Care. She was a partner in fighting for the Port of Baltimore and jobs in Manufacturing, especially Defense. A lady of Old School Values and a champion of the people she represented - she leaves a legacy from which we all can learn. I sure did. She is missed and not forgotten by all she helped along the way.
Sincerely,
Barbara Mikulski

What a legacy Marjorie has left for her family. She was very good friends with my Aunt Dottie Phillips who passed away last week at the age of 94. My maiden name was Vittek and I found a memior from my Dad that he had worked on Marjorie's campaign. Bless you all. Gini Spicer

Such an interesting obituary. I remember when Mrs Holt was elected to the House of Reps in 1972. Amazing that she is survived by a great-great-grandchild. As a genealogist I can say that it is nearly unheard of that 5 generations of a family would be living at the same time. From a former Baltimorean, my sympathies to the Holt family.
