Max Bloom Obituary

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Max Bloom, who left us peacefully on November 1, 2024, at the age of 90 at Doctors Hospital in Sarasota. Born in London, England, Max was the second son of David Bloom and Eva Waltzer, who were deaf. His first language was Yiddish and his early childhood was marked by the hardships and evacuations of World War II.

Max proudly served as a Sergeant and Drill Instructor for the Royal Air Force and transitioned to a career as a physiotherapist. He worked in Israel then moved to Baltimore, Maryland after accepting a post at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. He was one of the first staff members of Baltimore County General Hospital and married his boss's daughter, Carol Ann Kallins. They had three sons and later informally adopted a talented young violinist, Qing Li.

He was an early promoter of circuit fitness training and built a successful multidisciplinary rehabilitation practice that fueled his entrepreneurial ventures. He was a longtime member of the choir at Chizuk Amuno congregation in Pikesville, and spread his love of gardening as the president (2002 - 2006) of the Maryland State Horticultural Society.

Max and Carol retired to Sarasota Florida, living happily among family and friends until Carol's untimely passing from cancer in 2019. They are survived by their sons (Brian, Ian, Justin) and their respective wives (Rachel, Sushila, Summer). Grandchildren (Miranda Silverman, Hudson Bloom, Miles Bloom) and great grandson (Luke Silverman). Max is also survived by his brother, Arieh Nitzan.

Dear family,
My sincere condolences on the passing of Max. I knew him and Carol through Dan Wagner when I lived in Baltimore. I didn´t get to see him in Sarasota where we both lived. He had an extraordinary career.
