Michael Sherman

1942 - 2024

Dr. Michael L. Sherman passed away peacefully in his home on Dec 15, 2024. Born on May 3, 1942, he was the son of the late Anne and Issac Sherman. He grew up in Baltimore. After graduating City High School, he received his BA from Duke University in 1963, where he majored in History and played on the varsity lacrosse team. He pursued his MD at University of Maryland and graduated in 1967. He met Irene, a microbiologist and future wife in medical school and they married in 1966. Michael did his internship at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital in Miami and returned to University of Maryland for his residency in Radiology. He also served in the Navy as a physician and lieutenant commander.



Michael had a lifelong love of both golf and fly-fishing, and was never bored if there was a wood, iron, putter or rod nearby. His greatest love, however, was the family he created with Irene, his wife of 56 years who predeceased him by 18 months. He loved and was loved by his 3 children and their spouses: Randi and Larry Abramson, Steven and Jamie Sherman, and Julie and Jason Whitney. His 8 grandchildren brought him the title he loved the most ("PopPop") and he treasured the relationship he had with each of them: Justin, Samantha, and Tyler Whitney; Wyatt, Dex, and Scarlett Sherman; and Zachary and Carly Abramson. He is also survived by his loving siblings who he treasured dearly, Harriette Clark (the late Rod) and Larry Sherman (Joan) and many loving nieces and nephews.



As a radiologist, Michael enjoyed many accomplishments and successes in his field. He was Chairman of Franklin Square Hospital's radiology department and a physician with the radiology practice Drs. Copeland, Hyman and Shackman, PA. He was instrumental in merging several radiology practices into Advanced Radiology serving as President and subsequently as its board chairman. He sat on many other boards including MedStar Health, Radiologix and RadNet, and Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community Day School.

Services at Sol Levinson's Chapel, 8900 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville, MD 21208, on Wednesday, December 18th, 2024, at 12:30PM. Interment Beth Tfiloh Cemetery. Please omit flowers.
