Douglas G. Phillips, 82 of Malden died peacefully in his home on October 1, 2022. Doug was born on June 14, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois to Stuart G. Phillips and Christine Young.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Christine Portoghese, and his brother Stuart.
Surviving is his sister Constance Kappel, brother-in-law Philip (Christine) Portoghese, sister-in-law Judith (Stuart), ex-wife Marjorie and son, Paul; two granddaughters, Samantha (Jordan) Nelson and Taylor Marie Phillips; one great-granddaughter Vanessa Nelson; one niece Christine (Jeffrey )Baker, and five nephews, Stephen (Caroline) Portoghese, Stuart (Jeanné) Portoghese, Philip Portoghese, Theodore Kappel and Samuel (Audrey) Kappel; thirteen great-nieces and great-nephews. Doug's family members are spread across the United States, from New Mexico, Washington, Kansas, to Minnesota, New York and Illinois.
Doug moved to Malden in 2010, and loved it. He was an active Malden Village Trustee for over 10 years. His earlier hobbies included fishing, shooting at the Chillicothe Sportsmen's Club, and enjoying the countryside. He was a HAM radio operator, artist, and avid reader.
Donations in remembrance of Doug can be made to the Voluntary Action Center of LaSalle, Putnam & Bureau counties, Meals on Wheels program.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 13, at 11:00 a.m. at the Malden Cemetery.
