Died: February 2, 2023 in Princeton, IL
Larry Joe Mongan, 77, of Princeton, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023 at his home.
Funeral services for Larry will begin at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 6th, at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton, with Pastor Darren Jones officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Princeton Veterans' Group will follow at Elm Lawn Memorial Park in Princeton. A visitation for Larry will be held at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton, on Monday, February 6th, from 10:00 AM until time of funeral services.
Larry was born in Princeton on March 31, 1945 to Eugene A. and Lucille J. (Priutt) Mongan. He married Vicki Kaye Olson on August 18, 1968 at Evangelical Covenant Church and they celebrated 54 years together.
Larry was a veteran of the United States Navy. He had worked for LCN in Princeton. Larry was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manlius and also served as a Boy Scout leader in Princeton for many years, until 2013. His family will remember him as the world's best grandpa and an accomplished artist who always stayed busy. He was a selfless man who took care of others first and loved talking to people. He enjoyed tending to the koi in his fish pond and researching family ancestry and genealogy.
Larry is survived by his wife, Vicki, of Princeton; his children, Marty (Dora) Mongan of Bloomington and Karen Mongan of Princeton; his five grandchildren, Pahola (Magnus) Hjohlman, Mary Vasquez, Haleigh (Brandon) Youngren and children Robert and Lailah Huffman and Alexia, Braydin, and Dylan, Sydnee Mongan (Steven) and children Lylian Mongan and Elliot Elias; and Molley Mares.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Skylar Coffin in 2018; his sister, Karen Mongan; and his brother, Dennis Mongan.
In lieu of flowers, Larry's family kindly requests making a donation for a family memorial to be established in the future.
