Teda M. Hagerman, 98 , of Beatrice, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011 at the Beatrice Manor. She was born April 11, 1912 at Blomberg, Ostfriesland, Germany where she spent her childhood and was the eighth of eleven siblings. She came to the United States in 1927 with her family and was a graduate of Filley High School. She married Thomas C. Hagerman June 24, 1936 and became a U.S. citizen in 1937. Tom and Teda owned their first retail store in Paonia, Colo. and later owned a Gambles Store in Heffner, Ore. where their son, Jerry, was born. They then purchased a store in Forest Grove, Ore. and at Molalla, Ore. they opened a new Marshall-Wells Store. Tom then worked in shipyards in Portland, Ore. during World War II. They later owned their first Western Auto Store in Superior, Ariz; and then owned a variety store in Buckeye, Ariz. from 1948 to 1954, after which they owned a variety store in Tucson, Ariz. and finally owned a Western Auto Store in Wilcox, Ariz. They spent their retirement in Tucson, Ariz. Following the deaths of her husband and son, Teda moved to Beatrice and has lived at the Regency since 1994.
Teda is survived by two granddaughters, Lisa Hagerman of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Jill McKnight of Tempe, Ariz.; by a daughter-in-law, Linda Hagerman of Phoenix, Ariz; by a sister, Marie Wickersham of Keenesburg, Colo.; by a brother-in-law, John Hagerman and his wife Chris of Wichita Falls, Texas and by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Heye C. and Margaretha (Burmeister) Oltman; by her husband, Tom, March 3, 1986; by her son, Jerry, Aug. 6, 1992; by brothers, Diedrick, Siebelt, John, Dick, Anton, and Harm Oltman; and by sisters, Grace Bohlken, Margaret Bohlken and Elizabeth Rickers.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel, 708 N. 6th Street, with Pastor Travis Panning of the Immanuel (State Line) Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery. There will be no viewing, but a register book will be available for signatures Thursday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Friday until the time of service.
